i keep my phone in a wallet which also holds other cards which are contactless how does it affect using Apple Pay. Will it pick up the other cards. As they are so close or do I need to take my phone out of wallet every time

Not at all, no my knowledge. Apple Pay uses the card you previously entered, not the one in your wallet.

I would take the phone out. I have no idea if your wallet would interfere with the "near field communications"
