Time Capsule backup

My new computer died last week but it was backing up on my wifi Time Capsule using Time machine. When I view my Time Capsule I see the name of the computer that died and last backup but I when I hold down option and click I cannot see any package contents. Its shows there is 350GB so there is stuff there but can't see to access it. Also when I use migration assistant is does not see it. Any ideas?

I would do the following.

Get a USB drive of sufficient size to backup the whole contents of the TC.. 1TB is probably enough..

Plug it into the TC and run archive. On the disk tab of the TC in airport utility.

Then plug the USB drive into the new computer and try again.. open the backup from there and see how you go.

Still issues you might need to fix permissions which is possible on the USB drive.. it is not possible on the TC. (unless you have an old OS install of 5.6 utility.. in which case it might be possible.. but I need more info).

Internal Disk Repaired ..

That would be a new message .. I have never seen... do you mean needs repair??

Power down the TC for a longer period.. say overnight.. start it up the next day and see what message you get..

Otherwise do a factory reset and see if that helps.. factory reset will not do anything bad to files on the disk.

No luck you cannot do anything with internal disk that needs repair.. you must pull the hard disk from the TC and use recovery software on a Mac or send to a recovery centre.

Ok.. I am reading enough reports of issues.. that if you do a factory reset and nothing good happens.. then downgrade the firmware back to 7.7.8.

If the disk needs repair message is still up.. then do leave it overnight to cool off.. and see if you still get it again in the morning.

The only fix for a disk needs repair is replacement.

Assuming it is only a backup then do a full one pass erase from the airport utility.. but IMHO disks that start showing errors are never truly fixed.
