I have an issue where my phone’s brightness goes all the way down after being idle for a period of time. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have an iP7+ using iOS 11.2.0. I’m not sure where to being to fix this problem.

Hi Foxxybrown40,

I understand that your screen goes dark after a few minutes of being idle, and I'm happy to provide some help for this.

Based on what you've described, it sounds like your iPhone is automatically locking. Check out the steps below to change how quickly this happens:

Passcode - iPhone User Guide

To adjust when iPhone automatically locks (and then requires the passcode to unlock), go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Cheers!

Foxxybrown40,

Thanks for following up with that clarifying information. It sounds instead like you are talking about auto-brightness. Check out the information in the following article to learn more about this, including how to disable this feature:

Adjust the brightness on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

About brightness levels

iOS devices use an ambient light sensor to adjust brightness levels based on the light conditions around you. The sensor lowers brightness in dark locations and raises brightness in light locations. The auto-brightness feature is on by default.

When auto-brightness is on, you'll notice that your device's brightness slider moves according to changing light conditions.

In iOS 11, you can turn auto-brightness on or off in Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations. In iOS 10 and earlier, go to Settings > Display & Brightness.

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply. But that’s not what I’m talking about. Say for instance you swipe up to access the control center and you adjust your phone’s brightness. That’s whats always changing. I have to set it over and over because after setting my phone to the side for a while when I go back to it it’s all the way down (no brightness) versus three quarters of the way I set it to previously. Maybe I didn’t explain it properly the first time.
