LG 25UN58 full resolution please on a mini Mac mid 2011

Hello, I've got a mid 2011 mini Mac and it states the resolution up to 2560x1600 will be supported via thurderbolt. The LG monitor has a resolution of 2560x1080. I've bought a Belkin thunderport to HDMI adapter from my local apple store was told it should work but I don't get the resolution option on the screen preference , just up to 1080, help please. All seems compatible but not, seen a lot of other problems but no real answers. Many thanks.

Well yes, but trying to find the correct resolution.

I'm simply trying to find the resolution the mini Mac says it's capable of " 2560x1600 "

And the monitor is 2560 x 1080

I'm using thurderbolt to HDMI, so why can't I?

Hearing so many possible solutions which I'm trying, but surely it's not this hard?

The specifations on both seems capable.

The computer cannot show a resolution that the monitor is not capable of achieving. Your monitor can only display at 1080 regardless of the capability of the computer. You will only be able to get 2560x1080, the monitor's max or native display rate. To achieve the max capable by the computer you will need a monitor that is capable of that resolution. I have a HP 34C Envy which is capable of 3840x2160 but with my Late 2012 mini I can only get 2560x1440.

My regular monitor is a 50" LCD flat screen UHD but I can only get 1920x1080. With an Active Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter I can get 3840x2160. The main caveats are the refresh rate(30herz) is too slow for gaming and the system fonts in the menu bar are just too small and non adjustable.

Thanks Gary,

But I'm getting even more confused now.

The guy in the Apple store it should be ok.

The specifations seems to match, I've got a thunderbolt to HDMI , which I thought would get the max resolution the Mac and monitor can get.

What adapter do you use please? See you said active? Didn't think you can get two sorts?

Sorry for sounding a bit thick about this.

The person in the Apple Store told you correctly that the Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter would work which by your own admission does. The 1080 aspect is part of the monitor's native resolution. As per my other post the computer cannot force the monitor to display a resolution it cannot attain. When you go into scaled in the display prefs you will see the resolutions are all smaller than than the native resolution of 2560x1080. There is nothing you can do or buy that will change it. If you want a higher resolution than you will have to get a monitor capable of it.

What a waste off time if had with this, unbelievable really and quiet disappointing to be honest.

I only got 1 tip or advice from one person saying " a active " thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.

Went on Amazon messaged the seller he said it would work fine. Considering the guy said the same about his adapter he sold me for £30 I wasn't that hopefull. Received item from Amazon today and it only cost £12 it worked !! I am now getting a resolution of 2560x1080, brilliant screen.

The Apple shop will be seeing me again for a refund, they did say to be honest bring it back if doesn't work. But would have thought they would have known.

I can't believe in the end it was a simple adapter. No SwitchResX needed, ( waste of money)
