Messages app badge icon not showing up.

Ok, are you ready for this? After 5 weeks on no red app badges in the Message app on my iPad, I suddenly started seeing them again a couple of hours ago. Can't think of anything I did that may have nudged it into working again. There's been no iOS update beyond 11.2.2, which I've had installed for awhile. Go figure. 😕

That same thing happened to me... I don't think this is an 11.2.2 issue, but it seems it could be an interaction between that and on the server side of things from Apple... I think that once the message is downloaded to other devices, the ipad forgets about showing it in the tray...

I was hoping this was going to be the answer, but it wasn’t. I turned my phone off and left it out of my home WiFi access area, but the badge icon still did not appear on the mini iPad. Now with another update, I have not seen anything about this glitch/bug being fixed, even though there were other issues with iMessage that were addressed. I have not downloaded the 11.2.5 and will wait to see if this does fix it upon replies here And whether it stays fixed or just fixed for a couple days.

There have only been a handful of people here who have had the icon come back for no apparent reason. I wasn’t one of them. So far, the badge icon is still working with the latest update. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Llevesque, you are not trying to be rude, really? I apologize if I "repeated" what was already posted but this is my first time posting in Apple Support. Shame on me, right? Or, maybe we should ALL air our grievances with such basic functionality problems. If so many of us report the problem in a public forum, then there's a better chance that they will take notice and not hide the fixes in their updates (they have not acknowledged a fix for this problem in their 11.2.2 update, but some fix is definitely in that update; it is not listed on their iOS 11 update page). Or, in your view, maybe I shouldn't have posted a "me too" post and others should have not either....let Apple think that's it's not really a big problem. As for your advice that it will be low on their fix list, I don't need to hear your opinion. Yeah, I work in IT too, but as a consumer my concern is that I paid $1,000 for a product and it is now missing a core piece of functionality. I want Apple to hear, and for those of us who are not "cooled drinkers", we just may not buy the product again and, rather, we make change to our lifestyle so we are not dependent on this gadget because problems like this one are HUGE time wasters; we can spend our discretionary money elsewhere.

After posting my complaint on 1/13, my badge app icon miraculously started working. My guess is that I received the 11.2.2 update shortly after. However, today, 1/30, it is no longer working. Apple Support....if you are reading these boards, please note that some of us are so sick of dealing with these issues that we are looking to shorten our tech gadget footprint for the future. I wasted too much time on the phone with Apple Support and your appointments, taking me through silly troubleshooting when it is clearly a problem on your end....and you wouldn’t even admit that it was a known issue. Can you count the number of posts on this thread? It’s quite a problem. I know, these things will happen. That is why I plan to buy less teach gadgets in the future in order to minimize the gadget bugs that I have to deal with. Bye Apple. I’m quite fed up.

I so agree with you. I too am tired in talking to support who no nothing about the problem but waste my time. Why can’t they notify these people and say we are working on an update that will,correct it. This is something we should not have to be even dealing with. Good grief

I just updated my iPad Pro to 11.2.5 this evening. The update got rid of the 3 “ghost” messages I’ve had showing for the last month, but now it’s not showing any new message alerts. Fix one thing, break another, I guess. Just adding my info to what seems to be a lot of others with the same “not showing alert” problem.

I should have written more clearly. It is indeed the badge icon that is my problem on the iPad. Before the latest upgrade, the icon continued to show unread messages even though there weren’t any. Now, after 11.2.5, the badge icon doesn’t appear at all when new messsges arrive. I turned the iPad off and ion after I realized that, to be effect, so for me, the problem remains.

Exactly the same issue. Try to restore . Still the same . Working fine on iPhone .

Yes. This is happening to me as well. It is working fine on my iPhone but not my iPad. I keep looking for an update so it will be fixed.

I have the same issue, iPhone 7 works great, ipad pro not so much. Both devices are on 11.2.1. Anyone have a solution yet?

Well that didn’t Last long. It is doing the same thing. No badge app icon again.
