iOS 11--Apple Pay Cash popup in iMessages looks like phishing attempt

Thank you very much for providing the link to the site permitting me to provide Apple with feedback about their decision to hold my texting capability hostage. I needed to send a fairly urgent text today and was unable to do so for quite some time because of the stupid "Send Money With Apple Pay" pop-up that blocked my texting capacity. Like the OP, I finally pressed "Continue" because nothing else had worked, and I *NEEDED* to send that text. It was gratifying (if probably fruitless) to be able to express my outrage to Apple at their stunt. Again, thanks.

I was also blocked from sending texts by the "Send Money Using Apple Pay" pop-up until I clicked on "Continue." I don't understand how it is legal for Apple to hold a basic phone function hostage in this manner. Now that I have "expressed interest" in Apple Pay -- albeit out of desperation to be able to send a text -- I'm concerned about whether Apple will take it upon themselves to use my credit card information to set up Apple Pay even though I absolutely don't want it. If I didn't loathe Android quite so much, I would take my new iPhone and sell it on E-Bay.

So now what? we can’t use the iMessager unless we agree to use Apple Pay or rather click on it to continue, me an my wife are really thinking of not continuing with iPhone any longer for these reasons,what’s next oh well merry Christmas folks

Apple has really lost their way. It's like they've hired a bunch of high school kids without any experience to design their interfaces and functions. Something like this (and 100 others) should never have made it past the first suggestion, much less into the product. Where is the oversight? I think it's long gone.

Hi. Thanks for posting this. I refused to hit the continue button. I had a total of four text messages all sent at the same time which I was unable to see, and the dreaded Apple Pay kept coming up and not leaving the screen. I disabled Apple Pay and deleted all my card info, then I Reset All Data as suggested by another poster.

After resetting, I was able to see all four texts messages. No text messages were from Apple Pay. Three of the texts messages were disabling service alert messages from 1) my bank, 2) from my automobile club, 3) and UPS. The fourth message was from "Verify Phone Query: You will receive no further messages from this service. Questions? Please call 888-511-2**1."

This fourth text is from Wireless Armor (wirelessarmor.com). And how convenient, they are promoting security alerts to your phone and immediate notifications related to your Wireless Armor account. I don't believe this issue has to do with promotion of Apple, or Apple Pay. I believe these guys (Wireless Armor) have found a convenient and clever way to hack and disable all security alerts set up, and promote their service. Wow! How convenient....I think I've been hacked and a timely message from this company comes up to save the day. I think Apple needs to look at this security breach asap. It is disturbing to think my bank's security alerts to my phone can be disabled, as well as any other service alerts I've subscribed to.

TIme to change my bank and other passwords asap too, but that's just me.

Probably, and thanks for the link...but...."The biggest new feature of iOS 11.2 is Apple Pay Cash (only in the U.S., for now)." ... I am not even in the US. What a waste to promote something to users who can't even use it. If this is an Apple promotion I am ******. This is hostage text.

I have same problem after the iOS11 update. I found a way to avoid the pop up temporary without hitting that Continue button nor changing anything in my phone setup. This is my method. When you launch the iMessage app from your home screen, touch and hold the iMessage app button until the "write new message" dialog pops up. Select write new message. Don't choose existing thread. Otherwise Apple Pay cash pop-up again. After selecting write new message, you can either write a new message or hit cancel to exit from writing new message. Then you will be back to your familiar iMessage screen. You can view, reply or write new messages. I still hope Apple will fix this hyjacking pop-up ASAP. Many people around the world don't use Apple Pay at all.
