Turned Off iMessage. Lost texts. WHY?!

I simply turned off my iMessage because I wasn't getting messages on time (It's always had glitches. Even while connected to Wifi). Now, I'm not getting the messages at all! My friends are sending me messages I know nothing about! I want my missing texts and to receive all texts through ONLY SMS from now on. (Obviously I don't care if they use iMessage or not! Communication is more important than the platform used!)

Is this just a way of trying to get everyone stuck on Apple products? (You don't use our messaging platforms, you are more likely to choose another phone next time, YOU PAY!!!!)

How can iMessage be so faulty!? (even turning it "off" and "on" again seems like such a hassle! It should be instant, no?)

Has this happened to anyone else?

HELP! My friends are probably getting mad at me for not responding to these messages that I don't even know exist!

This is a big inconvenience for me! I'm definitely not happy with Apple!

iMessage is useless if you do not use it. I disabled it for similar reasons & saw the same issue. Find another chat app that is not controlled by Apple if you want messaging via the internet.

Anyone who has ever sent you an iMessage can still try sending them to you because the old address is probably still active. This normally happens if you had multiple devices registered to use iMessage such as a computer or old phone, Apple may send messages to those instead (or just delete the messages after a few hours/ days).

iMessage ignores the fact you may not be online or don't have an active iMessage connection. You should try deregistering to make sure that your email & phone number are removed from iMessage. Otherwise messages just get sent & you never see them, the sender isn't notified that you didn't get them either.

Deregister iMessage on your iPhone or online - Apple Support

Once your email & phone number are no longer registered with iMessage your friends messages should be sent via SMS. Ensure your friends have the mobile number as the email will no longer work.

@liv0123, just try the advice you gave, then ask a friend to send you iMessages, you should find you never see them as they never fall back to SMS. You need to test advice before posting here (see the terms of the site).

Ty drew. I have tested the theory. I and others don't have issues bc we gradually work through troubleshooting and resolve them :)

Original poster may simply need to feel free to offer more info so those who volunteer to help, can do so and on his terms

And, maybe he just wants to vent and eventually figure it out on his own. Consider that - you never know

Just bc we may not write a dissertation, doesn't mean we are unknowledgeable or assume users won't ask for additional help.

Be more careful in your feedback. Everyone guides and isolates issues differently much like everyone offers certain info differently. Sometimes, we just need to get more info first :)

Think my word limit is good to go whilst offering useful info on probing, initiating and guiding.

Happy holidays!
