Need to “”charge”” my 15” 2011 Macbookpro. I have a older magnetic 60 watt power supply adapter. It fits the port, but will it charge the battery.??????? My 20011 calls for an 85watt adapter.

Yes, the 60W will charge more slowly but there is no other thing to take note of, it just takes a bit longer. If you switch the Mac off while charging the time needed will be reduced a little.

It wasn't designed for it is why I qualify with probably. You wiill notice that it will charge slower and will heat up more than normal ... but I would expect a 60W charger to do the job if it is in good condition. Best not to make a habit of it.
My Wife does it all the time, using her 13" MacBook Pro charger on her 15" MacBook Pro.
Also most USB-C adapters with pass-through power, only pass 60w, but the USB-C based Macs charge just fine (as in my Late 2016 15" MacBook Pro)
I routinely use a 60W supply with my 2012 15" MBP, it works fine.
A black MacBook uses 42 watts peak, a 60 watt charger should work albeit slowly if the Mac is on while charging fairly quickly if you turn the Mac off before charging it.If it wont something other than age is up with it. One or the other (the Mac or the Charger) is out of spec.
