Ever Since I updated to iOS 11.2.1 my messages do not show in correct order Ive tried restart manually setting time and 24hr time. Nothing seems to fix this issue driving me nuts constantly missing text because overlooking. They are showing as if they were received before other messages. Common Apple your killing me how can I keep speaking so highly of you when lately you've been letting me down.

I just got off the phone with Advanced Support from Apple and Now have mine working.
If you go into Settings > General > Date & Time > Turn off Set Automatically for about 10-15 seconds and turn it back on.
I did this and have now tested it with a new message thread as well as an exiting message thread with two people that I have had the problem with and it is now working correctly.
Thank you, that works! I noticed when I turned off the Set Automatically button that the time zone was Beijing. Got a chuckle out of that since I'm in New Jersey. Once I turned it back on, it set the correct location. Updates! 😉
Me too! I’ve been having the same issues since late December and every person I talked to over Apple chat would tell me to do something different to my phone. I reset my phone, did a force restart, erased my phone twice and finally they told me to replace the battery and I did. I paid almost 40$ and that didn’t solve my problem. When I contacted Apple again now in February, they told me to erase my phone again and set up as a new device, so I had to download all my apps again and I lost all my messages. That’s so frustrating! I was thinking of updating to an iPhone 7 or 8 but now I might switch to an Android phone...
Yea definitely annoying. Talked to support over the phone and they said they see apple is aware of situation and appears to be working on resolution. Also stopped by apple store to see if anyone had a fix or temporary solution. One employee said he had never seen such a thing after I showed him he then grabbed one of there advanced techs who knew exactly what the issue was but unfortunately there is no fix and a update is currently in process.
The issue is with messages in the same minute. iMessage does not seem to be using seconds for ordering messages, so they appear randomly. So much so that I miss even replies, ie if ios thinks that the incoming imessage is earlier than the last imessage I sent out. So I end up missing iMessages altogether.
I do nit think they are out of order if sent in different minutes or hours.
I am on the latest MacOS and have had this issue on my MacBook Pro since December. I reported it to Apple and they said it was a known issue and a fix was being worked on. 8 months later and I am still waiting. I now try to use other messaging tools for most of my contacts as Apple seem to have no interest in resolving it.
Same exact thing is happening to me. Completely missing responses and thinking I didn’t receive one. Have you found a work around/solution?
That’s the same thing I was thinking. Earlier they asked if it was iMessage or both kinds. Nobody I text regular answers me as fast as my Apple friends. So IDK if it’s jist iMessage or not.
iMessage will be in blue meaning iPhones was used to send msg. Green msgs means Android was usedto send you the text msg.
On an iPhone 7 you hard reboot with the volume down button, not the home button. And you should only hard reboot if your phone is frozen or non responsive. It could delete data.
SMS or MMS messages are handled, delivered and managed by your carrier. How can that not be a carrier issue?
Same thing happens to me across multiple contacts. Seems to be the latest in a string of Apple bugs.
It appears to be an iOS problem only. I do not have this going on when I message from my Mac running High Sierra.
Seeing the exact same thing with 11.2.1. I have Verizon. Wake up Apple and fix this thing!!
