iPhone 8 Plus camera aspect ratio *****!

The iPhone camera takes pictures in its native aspect ratio. That's full quality. If you want 16:9 you can crop the image by tapping Edit.

The Pixel XL is cropping it's photos, there's no such thing as a 16:9 lens, it's always cropped. Even cinema cameras.

I had the same frustration, so I made an app that takes fullscreen photos on any iPhone. It really shines on the gorgeous display of iPhone X and on Plus devices:

In addition it auto-enhances the photos it takes, and it displays even existing photos in full screen and always properly oriented.

I think the aspect ratio is actually 3:2, which is the standard ratio used for printing photos, it's uncommon to print photos at 16:9.

You can download a 3rd party free camera app from App Store, looking for one that have 16:9 aspect ratio. There are hundreds.

As explained before... no camera sensor is 16:9. The Pixel's native sensor ratio appears to be 4:3.

It's the app that crops to any ratio. If Apple's native camera app does not suit your needs, get any of the dozens of 3rd party apps that may.

You are moaning about the device when the device is not the issue.

It's the camera app.

- I want Apple to give a 16:9 option like every other flagship phones out there. Please don't limit what customers want to do and if you are coming from using other phones (in my case from Pixel) have a user experience which is more than other phones!

Than, as suggested, tell them. We are volunteers here who have zero influence over Apple's decisions and choices. You are not talking to Apple here.

I don't think most people like 4:3 aspect ratio pics. I can't imagine seeing 4:3 pics on a phone.

You are expressing your bias and are free to do so.

Photographing in the 2:3, 4:3 and 4:5 ratios is approaching 200 years old.

Camera phones in a decent 16:9 quality, just a few years. Maybe 5.

I'd say the majority are still visualizing photos in those ratios. Go to a frame store and check out the most common photo frame sizes.

4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 11x14, 16x20.

No 16:9.

This should have been in the iOS (or native camera app) from years.

I would suggest taking a picture using the standard app then when you change it to the 16:9 you can see how much of the photo is being cropped. With cameras that have 16:9 built in all they are doing is cropping before you can see the original.

I can’t believe this topic has made it to page 3 without anyone mentioning Snapchat. Go download Snapchat... it’s one of the most popular social networks in the world and their camera shoots in 16:9. Problem solved.
