iPhone 8 Plus camera aspect ratio *****!

I have been using Pixel XL from past 6 months. Just got iPhone 8 Plus from Costco. The first thing I noticed is the camera/picture is at 4:3 aspect ratio. Pixel XL covers a larger area when I tried taking pictures on both phones side by side. The photo fills up the screen in Pixel XL which is not the case with iPhone 8 Plus in camera mode. In video mode iPhone 8 plus does what I want - shoot in 16:9 aspect ratio. I don't think if I take prints of 4:3 aspect ratio pics the print will be good. When I tried to watch the pictures in iPhone 8 Plus in full screen mode there is a black bands on the side. The pictures don't fill the whole screen. This view is horrible view to view pictures in full screen mode.

How can I increase the aspect ratio in iPhone 8 Plus to 16:9?

As explained before... no camera sensor is 16:9. The Pixel's native sensor ratio appears to be 4:3.

It's the app that crops to any ratio. If Apple's native camera app does not suit your needs, get any of the dozens of 3rd party apps that may.

You are moaning about the device when the device is not the issue.

It's the camera app.

- I want Apple to give a 16:9 option like every other flagship phones out there. Please don't limit what customers want to do and if you are coming from using other phones (in my case from Pixel) have a user experience which is more than other phones!

Than, as suggested, tell them. We are volunteers here who have zero influence over Apple's decisions and choices. You are not talking to Apple here.

We (the user/customer) should have the choice!!! Come on Apple, don't be so narrow minded.

I have been using 16:9 aspect with my Panasonic & Cannon Cameras for years.... in fact ever since flat screen TVs were introduced. I thought I could do away with cameras when I bought an iPhone 8.... but have been sadly mistaken. I am so disappointed.

To suggest you don't have a choice when it come to camera apps on the iOS platform is absurd.

No camera phone has an image sensor built with a 16:9 ratio. None. It's the app that creates this ratio.

Probably because most people prefer their photos in native resolution, but you'd have to ask Apple that.

If this is the case - "iPhone camera takes pictures in its native aspect ratio", then why don't the video is also limited to the native aspect ration (4:3)?

Because people don't have 3:2 televisions or displays. Displays are 16:9.

Rotating doesn't help. The picture only occupies ~70% of the screen with black area on the sides.

I had the same frustration, so I made an app that takes fullscreen photos on any iPhone. It really shines on the gorgeous display of iPhone X and on Plus devices:

I can’t believe this topic has made it to page 3 without anyone mentioning Snapchat. Go download Snapchat... it’s one of the most popular social networks in the world and their camera shoots in 16:9. Problem solved.
