Metal corrosion on the edges of iPad Pro 12.9 (2017)

I noticed that my iPad started to corrode about a month ago (Nov. 13). It wasn't as noticeable before, but you can definitely see it if you try to examine the iPad closely. Just a week ago, I noticed that the corrosion on the chamfered edges of the iPad became worse. Here's a picture comparing the corrosion before and now.
I have submitted a post before (on another forum) when I first started to notice it corrode and people have been telling me that I bumped it onto a surface. I take great care of my devices. As far as I know, I have never bumped it onto a surface and have always kept it inside a sleeve. This is a replacement iPad since the original iPad I bought has manufacture defects. I have only used this iPad for 3 months. I don't know if this is considered a normal wear & tear for iPads. I have an iPad Pro 9.7 for a year prior to this iPad and that iPad never had corrosion on the chamfered edges nor scratches on the back (also used a Smart Keyboard for it and kept it in a sleeve). Does anyone have an idea on why this happen? I ordered a back case now from Amazon but I believe the problem will continue to persist.
