USB devices keep ejecting!

Hello!

So a bit of a hard one to explain but here goes

in the last 24 hrs or so, I have had trouble using any USB devices, SD cards and everything else works fine.

when i plug a memory stick, hard drive, mouse or anything in, it will work for a period of time, it varys from seconds to 10 minuites and then will randomly close any open windows (Finder usually) and then give me "disk not ejected properly" messgae.

I am not moving the device, or the laptop, just trying to move files across.

i have managed to get them all to work though a thunderbolt USB hub, and on other computers, so its not the device!

Anyone shed any light?

Hi there, LJM94,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities! From your post, I understand that you are having trouble with multiple USB devices being recognized by your Mac. While things like your mouse and keyboard, and memory drives, will work temporarily, after about 10 minutes, they stop. I'm happy to help!

From what you've stated, I would first suggest resetting the System Management Controller (also known as the SMC). More information on what the SMC handles, how it can help, and steps to reset it, can be found here: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support .

After you've reset the SMC, test the USB devices out. If you're still having trouble, test how the USB devices work while booted to safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support .

Should the issue continue after testing in safe mode, try testing in a new user altogether: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support .

If you continue to have trouble, don't hesitate to respond back. If you do, please check to see if any of your USB devices are shown under System Information while they are working. You can get information on checking that here: About System Information on your Mac - Apple Support .

Have a great day!

Thanks for the update, LJM94.

If you are still having the issue with your USB ports after erasing and reinstalling your macOS software, the next recommendation I would make would be to get the computer inspected. You can do that at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, and can use the following link to find locations, get contact information, and set reservations: Apple - Find Locations .

You're also welcome to reach out to Apple Support directly to get more information and to review your options: Contact Apple Support .

Cheers.

Thanks, will get it looked at.

to give some more info, I have just tried using my DBPower action camera (fake Go Pro) and it will register on quicktime, most of the time, i can see the camera input live, but it wont record.

The camera picks up the laptop straigh away without issue, stays connected and could be watched as a live input.

dont know if this gives any more clues... 🙂
