Image thumbnail stuck on screen

1. Open "Terminal"

2. Enter command "killall Finder"

Its called, FAILING GPU, currently my SECOND MacBook pro 2017 is at apple as we speak getting a new logic board.

I am having this issue as well... it happens at random times. I currently have two "preview" icons "stuck" on my screen. No matter where I go they are there on top of everything else. This has been happening every so often and the only way it disappears is to restart. You can see the two images in the attached photo.

we are having the exact same issue

brand new macbook pro with touchbar

running the most current version of high sierra

all software updates done

has anyone solved this problem??

other than having to relaunch finder repeatedly??

Ok, so we all now know to force quit and relaunch finder! The thing is, I’ve had macs for over 20 years and this has never happened before. There must be a reason and therefore a solution that will cure the problem from happening in the first place?

Please can someone from Apple identify this problem and fix it....

I created an account just to try and get Apple to get some people working on this issue. It's St. Patrick's Day and still no **** luck with these thumbnails. Hint: easy way to force quit finder. click the finder app icon, go to apple icon in the upper left of screen and click to see the menu, hold shift and click "force quit finder (forward most application in use)" on the drop down menu. 😀

I have this problem too but have found it occurs whenever I use Preview to convert a JPG to PNG.

If I modify a JPG in Preview, I'll see a prompt that requires converting the JPG to a PNG. When I click Okay, I continue to edit the PNG but there is a "residue" image of the JPG. It can't be opened, edited or deleted, but it appears.

But it only occurs during the conversion. And force-quitting Finder didn't fix it.

Yes!! I think this is finally the fix! I think it is a secondary clicking issue, as with my older macpro I would use one hand to click and drag at the same time- when I do this on my new touch macpro it creats this stamped ghost image on my desktop. If I use two hands to click (with one hand) and drag (with another hand) it does not create the ghost image. As per your suggestion I turned off this setting and so far so good! Apple needs to fix this issue. I will be calling applecare and updating my ticket with this info. Thanks!

I've been having this problem myself and just now fixed it by force quitting Finder. I'd like a permanent solution though as this is happening to me at least once a week.

Force-quit Finder.

I have same problem on MacBook Pro 15". go to. Apple (top left of screen) - Force Quit - Finder - Relaunch. That works for me !

I‘ve same issue when working with photos. I’ve to force to restart the computer in order to get ride off it. It’s brand new computer, I wonder what cause the problem and want to fix it permanently. To force restart the computer is not a solution and won’t fix the problem.

Just responding that I am also having this issue. I have literally used my new MacBook Pro twice and both times now I have had this issue. Restarting or force quitting Finder Should not be the permanent solution to this problem.
