Image thumbnail stuck on screen

My solution: Uncheck Look up & data detectors on System Preferences / Trackpad / Point & Click tab.

• Doing this it wont happen again!!!

(To get rid of the image stuck just Force Quit the Finder)

• Click on Finder, then click on Apple icon on the top left and click Force Quit, the image will vanish.

When I click to drag the image icon it happens, a tiny image stays in place, no matter what I open it stays on top. (Also new MacBook Pro here)

If trying to move an image triggers the image thumbnail stuck on your screen try this, worked for me: (My 2nd reply)

Go to Settings / Trackpad / tab Point & Click / Now uncheck Look up & data detectors

Worked for me! Both of my MacBook Pro have this option unchecked.

But we can not use "Look up & data detectors" either, so we do not uncheck it , but change it to the option of "three fingers tap"

I have a quick and easy fix. Please let me know if this works for anyone else. This happens to me sometimes.

All you do is when this happens is go in finder or any file for that matter and use quick look. Hit the space bar several times (quick looking any file) and the "ghost file" usually disappears. It works for me all the time and you don't have to quit finder as well.

Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

This bug happens trying to drag images when the one finger pressure High Sierra feature Look up & data detectors is on. Once you press harder the image it can get stuck on the screen.

I had the same problem (usually when exporting Photos from Lightroom and then importing them to Apple Photos). I couldn't reproduce it after starting up in safe mode (though I wasn't willing to try too long for all the graphics ticks that got on my nerves), but it hasn't happened so far after rebooting the computer again in the normal fashion.

COME ON APPLE, USE THIS INFORMATION AND SEND AN UPDATE DISABLING THAT FUNCTION!!! This quick look fix worked fine, and since quick look (for me) puts up a thumbnail identical to what got stuck on the screen super briefly before the image fully opens in quick look, I bet the stuck thumbnail got there via some sort of light touch of the space-bar as I was double-clicking to open a few images in Preview. Can't recreate such now, but...

So doing "quick look" via the space bar on any file worked like a charm for me. Thanks!

Try a Safe boot and, if necessary, a boot into the recovery volume and reinstall the system.

Open Terminal under Utilities in the Applications folder.

Run this command: sudo killall Dock

Enter your admin password when asked.

This will refresh the screen and get rid of the lingering icon.
