iPhone X - screen temporarily freezes

I recently bought iPhone X but am extremely frustrated as the screen (almost daily and sometimes multiple times a day) freezes and only works if I do a reboot or press the side button, volume buttons repeatedly. This is not a temperature issue as I’ve seen online as it happens when at home and no change in temperature before/after it stops/starts working again.

This is ridiculous and never happpened with any of the iPhone predecessors I purchased.

Mine freezes up multiple times a day too. It has done this since I got it around a month ago. It actually froze up while tying to type this. I switched back to iPhone from Samsung, thinking that was a big mistake.

I have this problem since few days, when I try to unlock the phone.

My screen has also freezed several times when I was writting messages.

I have called Apple this morning. They told me to restore my iPhone , and test if the problem is still present before reloading my backup.

I am running 11.2.1

This trouble is not reported too much , and I guess I will have to change my phone...

In next days , I will try Apple's advices, but I don't have too much hope.

What troubleshooting have you tried? Did you set this phone up from a backup of an older device? User troubleshooting generally includes restart, restore from backup, restore to factory; testing after each step. I have not experienced any issues with my iPhone X screen, and no one that I know that has one has either. If this doesn't help, then make a Genius Bar appointment to have the device examined by Apple.

As far as the warranty is concerned, you can return your phone within 14 days no question asked, for a refund. After that point, any problems with the phone are handled as warranty issues. You have no choice about what you receive for a warranty replacement, it could be new or refurbished, and there is no way of knowing. All replacement devices are packaged in plain boxes. There generally is not a stock of refurbished devices shortly after release anyway, so those replacements are generally new anyway. But the warranty states it could be either new or refurbished replacements.

I've explained Apple's information. Apple determines what is done with warranty replacements as indicated in the warranty. You can find information about warranty for the iPhone here, Legal - Hardware Warranties - Apple

You did not say if you restored from a backup. Apple will tell you to restore the device to factory, and test it without adding any additional content to the phone, by setting it up as a new phone and not from a backup. If the device works under those conditions, it isn't the phone, it is your backup that is the problem.

This is a user to user support forum, and Apple does not participate here. Telling anyone here what you want and don't want, has no bearing. You can deal with Apple tomorrow. However, I suggest that you read through that warranty information before your call, so you are aware.

My iPhone has been tested at the genius bar: nothing wrong with the hardware, especially with the touch screen.

I've followed their advices: restore my iPhone with 11.2.2, and test it without any backup.

I thought that the problem was with my backup, but I got the screen freezing and problems when I was written messages. This is an iPhone with only iOS 11.2.2 !

I don't know what's wrong ???

I will go in 2 days in the Apple Store to change my iPhone...

I am back with the Apple's solution ...

After testing my iPhone with iOS 11.2.2 and 11.2.5, without any backup restored, the problem was the same...

I went back to the Apple store, with my iPhone completely blocked.

The genius, with the Apple procedure, told me that it was necessary to replace the multitiouch screen.

After this replacement, my iPhone is working well !...

I'am happy after these 4 tiring weeks. May the iPhone X is a good choice...

I have the same issue. I chatted with apple they said oh i've never heard of this problem let me assure you it's not a common issue. Lies lies lies.. It's an issue with anyone I've asked that got a crap phone X. They told me to set up as a new phone to see if it's a data issue. I did and guess what it works but what if I actually need my 120 plus gigabytes of data like every other person that has bought this crappy crappy phone. I've lost many important business calls due to the poor manufacturing of this phone. Apple you are truly and utter disappointment. I'm should have bought a Android.

Hello JediJen,

After changing my screen, my iPhone is working well.

It’s a hardware problem !

I have reloaded my backup without any problem.

So, go to an Appstore, meet a Genius, tell him that you have tested your iPhone with a brandly new iOS, without your backup, and then, the apple’s procedure, when the problem persist, is to change the screen.

It took me 2,5 hours to wait for my iPhone.

I am also aproffessionnal, and I understand your feelings...

Good luck

Okay so I just got this iPhone X for Christmas. It constantly freezes. I always wake up to it completely frozen. Even while typing this it has frozen three times. This is the WORST iPhone I have ever purchased. I hate it. I don’t even know what to do. I even reset the phone and it doesn’t help. I have to sit there and fool around with the volume button and ringer to unfreeze it. This phone is awful, I’m extremely disappointed and mad over this .

My iPhone X screen freezes quite often. I’ve worked with Apple techs Restarting phone, etc...and it came down to wiping the phone and restoring from a clean backup. BUT my phone screen still freezes. It wakes after a couple hours. If not I plug it into my computer and synchronize with iTunes and it unfreezes by just being connected to the computer. Not very user friendly. Maybe it’s a way of forcing us to use the cloud services...not sure.

No matter what, Apple needs to address this! This is my second iPhone X. The ID camera (whatever is for face recognition) broke one day at random. Apple reported that there’s no fix for that...so they replaced it. Thanks Apple. Now let’s figure out why our iPhone X’s are freezing and fix it please!
