Dear Demo
Thank you for responding to my question. I know that my devices need to have bluetooth turned on. My problem Ian that I accidentally asked my iPhone to ‘forget’ my iPad and now the iPad is not ‘discoverable’ when Bluetooth is turned on. I need to know how to make my iPad discoverable again so that my devices can find each other.

I have done exactly that twice already. No I’m not trying to use my phone as a hotspot. I have WiFi here at home for all my devices. It’s just that I’ve accidentally asked my phone to forget my iPad because I noticed that it suddenly wasn’t listed as being discoverable and I wondered why, so I thought I should forget that device and start again. But my reading online suggests that once you ‘forget’ one device from your iPhone it’s gone forever unless you find a way to make the other device - in this case my iPad - discoverable again.
Apparently there is a way and I’m asking for help to do that. A button I need to push or something like that?
Hi memethorne. An iPhone and iPad cannot communicate directly over Bluetooth. So, the iPad is not discoverable like other Bluetooth devices. They can share files using AirDrop, but that's different, and should work if Bluetooth and Wifi are enabled on both devices, and AirDrop receiving is enabled.
Thank you Diana, I don’t need to communicate between my iPad and iPhone at the moment other than having my photos streamed onto my devices via iCloud. I am simply mystified that until I had asked my iPhone to ‘forget’ My iPad accidently, the iPad was actually listed as discoverable on my iPhone but no longer is.
My reading online suggests that Apple has ensured that once you forget a device it is forgotten permanently, but also that there is a way to make that device discoverable again if you re-pair that device as it was originally done. So my question here is how do I go about re-pairing my iPad to my iPhone or is that what you are saying - that isn’t possible? If that is so then why was it that up till a couple of days ago, my iPhone listed the iPad as discoverable?
thnak you

That has nothing to do with BlueTooth. Photos are uploaded to iCloud using WiFi.

That's the way BT works. If you forget the device (e.g. a BT speaker), you have to put it in to pairing mode again according to the manufacturer's instructions to see it again. However, you cannot pair an iPad to an iPhone or vice versa. So, no, there is no way to put them into pairing mode.
Turning on Bluetooth makes the device discoverable. I assume that you want to use the phone as a hotspot for the iPad Air.
Try turning Bluetooth off on both devices, restart both devices and turn Bluetooth on again.
For clarity, are you trying to use the phone as the hotspot for the iPad?
Thank you Idris
Glad it helped!
