Workout app is not responding on Apple Watch

Every time that I start the Workout app on my Apple Watch, this happens.

  • I click on the side button to scroll through apps in my dock.
  • I scroll to the Workout / Exercise app and tap it with my finger.
  • The Workout app comes into focus on my Apple Watch
  • Attempts to use my finger or the crown wheel on the watch to scroll through exercise has no effect.
  • Tapping the screen does not start the currently displayed exercise.

I can get it to work by

  • Push in the crown until I get the application screen ( ie screen displaying all of my installed Watch apps )
  • Selecting the Workout app again. Tap to verify that it is still not responding.
  • Press the crown to go to the watch face screen
  • Click on the side button again to access the dock.
  • Scroll to the workout app and select it.
  • This time , instead of the displaying exercises, the app icon stick figure takes up the entire screen. And a line draws a circle around the icon, which reminds me of a loading screen.
  • The stick figure icon disappears. The workout app is 100% responsive and functional.

Facts:

  • This happens every time. I use the app at most twice a day, so there are long delays between uses.
  • I haven't rebooted my Apple Watch since the problem started. I'll do that today.
  • My apple Watch is running OS 4.2 , has 2GB of available memory.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? If so , do you have a fix for this issue?

Apple Watch, watchOS 3, white sport band, aluminum

Hi

Whilst I'm afraid that I can't say why that is happening, the following steps may help:

If you have not yet done so, also update your iPhone to the latest software:

Close certain apps and restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch:

If you have ever (not necessarily recently) previously used any third-party fitness, heart rate or sleep tracking apps on your Apple Watch, then:

  • Check on your Apple Watch to see whether there is an active or paused activity within any of them.
    • If there is, end that activity from within the app on your watch (not your iPhone).
  • If in doubt, it may help to remove any such third-party apps from your Apple Watch, at least temporarily.

If the issue persists, next unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:

If the issue then still persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:
