I got my SE in December and have been getting these popups ever since. Once every few days on totally random sites. Def seems like a vulnerability of recent iOS. Apple needs to fix their security issues. Resetting safari data does nothing but exit the browser. It just pops back up days later. I’m disturbed by commenters saying it pops up in other apps and came back with Apple restore. It took me forever to restore my phone from old phone. I don’t wanna go that route especially knowing it may be useless. Sounds as if the iOS update itself contained a virus...***?

Sorry if the post came across as a bit scammy, I was a bit excited to finally find a fix. I did have a problem to the point as to where my meme pages I visited were a nonstop bombardment of scam pop ups. Sites like ESPN and CNN were a once every few days and sometimes would pop up under certain articles, if I refreshed they were popping right back up repeatedly on only that article. Sometimes they’d pop up when I was almost finishing the article and drive me up the wall as I’d have to close the tab and go find the story again.

The app I was referring to has a ton of positive ratings in the App Store. Not everything is a scam and I wanted to help the community.

Had the same problem, and tried all the suggestions, (clear history, clear website data, reset advertising identity), and none of them worked for even a second. Right now, to test if the problem really goes away, just go to The Weather Channel website (!!), wait for the banner ad to load, and see if the pop up appears.

What finally worked for me is installing AdBlock Plus (ABP). Installed it, and enabled it as Safari’s content blocker, then the problem went away, for real.

I assume other ad blocker works too, but I’ve been using ABP on PC/MAC for a long time, and I like their funding model....

ditto.

This is Safari. Apple‘s browser.

I can run Brave, Opera mini and Puffin no problem.

Safari‘s giving me this popup on more sites than weeks ago. Even drudgereport and grizzlycentral among many others.

I don‘t believe for a minute all these disparate websites are infected/corrupted. This is a very recent development, too.

Looks like I‘ll just need to get used to another browser, like I had to stop using iTunes because it scrambled my libraries so much.

Agree with all the previous answers, just want to drive the point home: PLEASE contact the originating website (if they are trustworthy) and tell them about this. The more people do it, the more pressure on the offender's middleman (who is also an offender, in my opinion).

Here's my form letter, feel free to plagiarize:

Hello,

I landed on your website via Google search on my iPhone's Safari browser, and barely got ___ seconds to look at the content when it was hijacked by an Amazon popup scam which claimed that I had won $1000 in Amazon gift cards. My phone's browser then became unusable and I could not return to your site. This is a common problem for iPhone users, however you should find out which of your advertisers is causing this, because it makes iPhone users unable to view your content.

Thanks,
