Reclaim storage space after deleting Bootcamp partition with windows on it.

I deleted my Bootcamp partition on my iMac 27 inch mid 2011 running Mac OS X high Sierra, but the storage space that once was used by Bootcamp is not showing in Disk Utility but is showed as a space with lines going over it, on the partition map. Obs, i cannot go into Bootcamp assistant to delete the partition as the hard drive was completely wiped. How can I reclaim my storage space?

Hi again!

I fixed it by resetting the entire computer once again and booted in internet recovery, then by using disk utility I could “delete free space” and after that use the partition manager to delete the Bootcamp partition by pressing the “-“ button.

We need to merge/remove disk0s3-disk0s5 and cleanup, before you try to re-install Windows. In Terminal, run the following commands (only once)

diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ BC1 disk0s3

diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ BC2 disk0s4

diskutil eraseVolume jhfs+ BC3 disk0s5

diskutil mergePartitions jhfs+ BCMP disk0s3 disk0s5

diskutil list

If you see only disk0s3, then

diskutil eraseVolume fat32 BOOTCAMP disk0s3

and now run BC Assistant and click on Remove/Restore.

(SSD here)

Untitled is the messed up disk I want to fix. Formatted it to Mac OS Extended.

Didn't mess with the OSXRESERVED drive (but seems out of place).

Basak Mac HD (Container Disk 1) is the disk I want to retain.

/dev/disk0 (internal):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme 500.3 GB disk0

1: EFI EFI 314.6 MB disk0s1

2: Apple_APFS Container disk1 415.0 GB disk0s2

3: Microsoft Basic Data OSXRESERVED 8.0 GB disk0s3

4: Apple_HFS Untitled 84.8 GB disk0s4

5: Apple_Boot 134.2 MB disk0s5

/dev/disk1 (synthesized):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: APFS Container Scheme - +415.0 GB disk1

Physical Store disk0s2

1: APFS Volume Basak Mac HD 172.7 GB disk1s1

2: APFS Volume Preboot 20.0 MB disk1s2

3: APFS Volume Recovery 506.6 MB disk1s3

4: APFS Volume VM 1.1 GB disk1s4

Here'e the stupid error message while installing windows - full marks for the error text:

And then it just kept restarting with occasional blue screens. I think I made a mistake selecting "Windows 10S" which turns out to be some security and performance version (idiots never mentioned on installer screen - could've just selected Windows 10 Home).

Thanks for helping Loner T.

Thanks a ton that worked - as in Bootcamp started showing me the partition screen (not repair).

However, this is how the new diskutil list looks like - there's still 84gb gone inside disk0s4:

/dev/disk0 (internal):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: GUID_partition_scheme 500.3 GB disk0

1: EFI EFI 314.6 MB disk0s1

2: Apple_APFS Container disk1 415.0 GB disk0s2

3: Apple_HFS BC2 84.8 GB disk0s4

/dev/disk1 (synthesized):

#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER

0: APFS Container Scheme - +415.0 GB disk1

Physical Store disk0s2

1: APFS Volume Basak Mac HD 172.7 GB disk1s1

2: APFS Volume Preboot 20.0 MB disk1s2

3: APFS Volume Recovery 506.6 MB disk1s3

4: APFS Volume VM 1.1 GB disk1s4

Should I try removing these extra volumes/disks before installing bootcamp Windows? Or will bootcamp assistant take care of it? I have doubts since it shows the remaining space (415gb) of disk0s2.
