Frame seperating from screen

My 16 month old Ibook screen/frame is showing a seperation between the frame and screen at the righthand lower corner. It is becoming more pronounced as time goes on. It is espceially noticable when opening the screen from a closed state.
Any danger that this will progress to disable the screen? Is there an easy way to re attach the screen to the frame? (I have the 3 yr service plan, is this covered?)

I have the same problem but it is in the center if the screen between the hinges. I think that it is just with use. It hast caused me any trouble unless that had something to do with my logic board failing bbut I dont think it did. Since it is in the corner perhaps you could just glue it. I dont think that cosmetic issues are part of the warrenty however.

I have the same issue. I just noticed that the bottom center frame of my two year old ibook (above the words iBook G4) are coming off the screen. I can see some sort of circuit or something, and I'm really worried that eventually my monitor may go blank. That would totally suck because I hadn't planned on buying a new iBook for another year. Is this going to eventually cause the screen to go bad? I mean, it can't be good.

Mine came shipped exactly how you described with the separation between the hinges (where "iBook G4" is printed). No harm is done technically as far as I can tell, but it still bugs me.

Discussion with APPLE: I have the 3 year service plan so I used it. They recommend NO GLUE. I would think gluing the screen to the frame would make repairs to either, just about impossible to complete. Further, some glues are solvents, hate to dissolve my screen!
My separation now measures 5 mm inch wide when open, and 8 mm wide when opening. Runs 20 cm across bottom.

After talking to Apple Service, the advice is to have it repaired as a cosmetic repair - potential est. is $300, not covered by Apple Service plan nor warranty. They further recommended that I take it directly to a service provider not an Apple Store. Service providers do the work there, stores send it to the service providers. As I use the Ibook in work daily, I have no time/tolerance for delay.
They said that they do not know if continued use of the Ibook in its condition would lead to screen malfunction, but if it did, that the malfunction probably would not be covered due to the original cause being "cosmetic".
Apple needs to take a serious look at this part of their design. I believe it is a design flaw, and if it leads to screen failure, should be covered by Apple. I have a G-3 Titanium, used hard daily for years, and it shows no separation...The question remains: Will the separation of frame at screen base damage things? Will they recognize it as a design flaw and repair them?

I took my 14" iBook G4 into the Apple Store about 2 weeks ago. The guy at the "genius bar" was a bit of a jerk--well, ok, quite a jerk--and gave me a hard time about the cracked screen. He told me that there was absolutely no way that this could have happened on it's own, that it was my fault and Apple Care doesn't cover it. I just stared at him until he said they would cover it this time, but they wouldn't cover it again.

It's in the shop now, as of yesterday.

I have a similar problem, though it did appear after I dropped my iBook. I now have a gap between the lcd screen and the plastic (just left of the 'iBook G4' at the hinge) It sounds like regular use can break something inside the hinge in the same way that dropping it can. (A definite design flaw)

For the time being I press my finger to hold the gap shut and reduce strain on the plastic every time I tilt the screen back (I no longer close my iBook)

In my experience glue does not work to fix something that broke because of strain, if that strain is still there. Is it possible that there is a screw (or two) that can be tightened inside the hinge mechanism that can fix this problem? Or is there a weak piece of plastic inside the hinge that often breaks and the part simply needs to be replaced? (I hope it's the former) Can you order the plastic hinge on its own, or do you have to get the whole lcd plastic casing?
