Apple music wont play songs (Region Issue?)

On my wife's iPhone 6s Plus her apple music won't play any songs. We use the same Itunes account and it works fine on all my other devices - just can't use the music at the same time. But my wife keeps getting "Your Apple ID is only valid for use in the US store" well yes, that's right, doesn't sound like an error to me. Whats going on anyone know?

Hi there solomani.

Thanks for joining us at the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you and your wife share an Apple ID and she's unable to listen to music because of the error message, "This Apple ID is only valid for use in the. U.S. store." I'll be happy to help you out.

You may want to look into Family Sharing as a way to share music and other purchases. That way your wife can use her own Apple ID and have her own iCloud backup separate from yours.

It sounds like the iTunes Store on the iPhone your wife is using thinks it's in another country. To change the country, follow this article.

Change your Apple ID country or region

Please let me know that these options resolved your issue.

Take care.

Fixed. The issue seemed related to the fact the music app couldn’t change stores. So I logged music completely out but instead of logging back in via the settings window I clicked on the music app directly. This prompted me to “try Apple Music”. When I logged in for this screen I got the same message then another message saying “switching stores”. Then it worked.

Thanks for the info, but this didn't work. She is unable to play any music even though she is using the same ID as me. The problem is only occurring on her iPhone, all other devices work fine. This is how it is setup:

  • myAccount (AU) -> used for everything, including family sharing, except iTunes store/music.
  • wifeAccount (AU) -> used for everything, including family sharing, except iTunes store/music.
  • sharedAccount (US) -> All our app, movie and music purchases are on this account which we all have logged into as our Itunes store account.

sharedAccount is the one complaining about music/region but only on one device.

My region is set to USA (though language is Australian). I don't believe this is the issue as all my other devices are set to Australia and work without issue.

It is set up this way as it predates family sharing and accounts are in different regions now. So I don't want to change it.
