Macbook pro OS X 10.6.8 cannot connect to App Store

Hi I am using a Macbook pro that runs on OS X 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10. I am unable to connect to apple start page as well as app store via Safari. I can only connect to apple home page with Chrome. The error massage I get when trying to connect to App Store is "Cannot connect to App Store". How can I resolve this problem? Thank you

I had this exact issue. Downloaded the combo update for 10.6.8 and the App Store update but nothing worked. Finally determined that the issue was with my network as I had upgraded my wireless network from DSL to fiber optic. Click on the top menu bar on the wireless icon and go to your Open Network Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, and then select the TCP/IP tab. Go to Configure IPv6 and turn it from "Automatically" to "Off." Snow Leopard does not work properly with these wireless settings as the newer Mac OS versions. You may have to restart your router/modem, but once you go back to Safari and App Store, they should be working normally.
