I opened my macbook pro, opened Apple Mail and found one of my inbox folders missing. Ive never seen that happen. Its the one attached to my icloud mail account. What happened and can I restore it?

Does the account show in Mail/Preferences/Accounts?
Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.
Reindex messages For El Capitan, try looking in V3. Sierra use V4. High Sierra use V5.

I'm not sure what reindexing is or how to do it but the problem was solved when I received a push text from Apple asking me to update my Mail app software. I had 6 mail boxes and the iCloud mailbox was the one that vanished. I performed the update and the missing mailbox reappeared.
