iPhone charging icon flashes on and off

When I plug my iPhone 8 into the left side USB port on my 2015 MacBook Pro the charging icon flashes Green then white and vibrates. Sometimes it stays charging, sometimes not. Anyone else experienced this?

Hello Richard Hall,

If I'm understanding your post right, you're experiencing difficulties with charging your iPhone 8 via USB on your MacBook Pro. I know how convenient it is to be able to quickly charge your iPhone via USB instead of having to search for a power outlet. Im glad you posted about this issue so I can help you with a solution.

First, make sure that your MacBook Pro is powered on and not in sleep mode when using it to charge your iPhone via USB. Based off of the information you shared, this charging issue could be related to your cable. Are you using the USB cable that came with your iPhone? If you aren't using the original cable, make sure you're using a cable that is Apple certified. If you're using a third-party cable and aren't sure if it's certified, the information in this support article should help you out: Identify counterfeit or uncertified Lightning connector accessories .

Next, take a look at the "If your device charges slowly or won’t charge" section here: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won‘t charge . That support article will provide you with some steps to try, as well as some guidance on what to do next.

Thank for responding Brenden. Actually, the problem is that when i sometimes plug the iPhone's USB into theft side of the computer the the charge indicator goes green-white-green-white etc., such that it is charging-not charging-charging... But I think I may have found the culprit. Often I am at my confined desk and have my iPad pro lying next to the computer and plug the iPhone in and set it on the iPad. My guess is that in certain situations possibly the batter in the iPad or something affects the phone causing this charging issue. I haven't yet been able to repeat the problem, but will watch. On an aside, i did find that if i placed the iPhone on the MacBook too the left of the touchpad the computer would freeze after a bit. Live and learn...
