My IPad Air 2 and recently started shutting down when the battery shows 30 to 50% charge. When I turn it back on, it shows ample battery life. It also frequently will indicate it is not charging when I plug it in. I am using the charger and cable that came with the IPad. When it does charge, it is extremely slow to charge or it rapidly recharges. Either way, the battery is quickly draining and requires continual recharging.
Just as I was trying to post this, it happened again. I turned it on and it showed 21% charged. A few minutes of use it quickly dropped to 4%. I plugged it in and it says not charging. I turned it off and now it’s showing 21%. Now when I plug it in to charge, it does not show the charging symbol and it does not indicate Not Charging. I can't charge it and I can't update to latest IOS because there is not sufficient battery life. When plugged into the wall, not getting indicator showing it is charging.
I have tried hard reset and it still will not charge. I just did reset and it showed battery life 15% and within a few seconds it shut down again. I plugged it back in and it showed the battery symbol. I left it plugged in for an hour (USB to computer). I have tried two Apple and one off-brand charging cable. When I hit the home button it shows the battery with red. Unplugged it and it showed the apple symbol. It came up to passcode screen. Entered that and the battery showed 17% and it then it shutdown. I tried a power pack and when I plugged it in, I got the battery symbol with red. It didn’t charge that way. When I did a re-boot for the 3rd time, it started and showed 17% battery and then shut down immediately.
The shutting down and not holding battery life are the same problems I experienced with my IPhone 6. I took my IPhone 6 to the Apple store last fall and they said the battery life was fine. I had them test my IPad Air battery at the same time and they said it was fine. This was before the issues with the IOS update affecting battery life was
public knowledge. Apple has acknowledged the updates affect the IPhones. I am seeing a lot of similar posts so I find it hard to believe the issues that I am now having are not related to a software update. I would appreciate any help I can get trying to revive my IPad.
