IPad Air 2 not charging

My iPad Air 2 battery drained completely the other day and now it will not charge past 2%. I tried leaving it on the charger for a couple hours and once I checked on it it was still at 2%. It quickly goes to 1% then shuts down. Is there something I can do myself or is it most likely a hardware issue? There is zero damage to my iPad and the charging port and it is completely clean of any debris. I am unable to get iTunes to recognize when it’s connected to my Mac mini at this point as well.

I have exactly the same problem.

The apple store adviced me to reinstall the firmware and after the reinstall NOT to install a backup. I really could not believe this advise (a software setting causing a charge failure???) but I did try it. And, it temporary solved the problem.

When i installed a firmware update the problem reappeared. Repeating the same procedure solved the problem again. After a usage of 2 months the problem reappeared.

The Apple Store offered a small refund in case i was willing to buy the new IPAD Air. However, this seems to be a software problem and I wonder if it is saved in case I buy an IPAD Air 3. Besides my opinion is that Apple should solve these software problems...
