Timing issue during track recording

I have a iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015), 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5, 24 GB 1867 MHz DDR3, AMD Radeon R9 M390 2 GB.

I have connected a Yamaha MX49 synth to it. I use East West Sound libraries. My song has 5 tracks. I am not doing too much sound processing, etc.

The East West Sound libraries are connected via Thunderbolt 2 to a Samsung 950 Evo 510GB SSD. I tried all caching settings from 0 - 5 > no luck with this issue.

I notice that when I record a track while playing from my Yamaha, even though I play it correctly - the recording has bad timing - lag/ delay - basically it does not record like I played it - there are pauses like it is glitching.

I tried using native GarageBand instruments - still has the same issue. I opened a new project and recorded - still the same issue.

I restarted, changed audio options and set it back (like I read online), Ensured only the program is running while I am recording - no luck.

Now, I had this problem with GarageBand, so I purchased Loc Pro X hoping that like I read online - Logic Pro X will not have this problem - no luck. It works better than GarageBand which is super glitchy - but still not recording perfectly.

Help!

iMac with Retina 5K display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.2), null

I'm not 100% sure this is the answer... and if it is, you're not going to like it.

With Logic not running, go to your Applications folder, single click the Logic icon and Get Info. There should be an option to run Logic in Low-Res mode. select and try your project again.

If it records without glitching you know it's a combination of High Sierra/Retina and Logic's graphic routines, as I recallthis didn't happen with the previous OS.

Does the East-West Library use Kontakt.. if so make sure Kontakt's memory server is disabled.

Also in Logic's Preferences/Audio set your I/O Buffer to 128 and make sure Multithreading is set to "Playback Tracks"

I have "returned" Logic Pro X and retained GarageBand as I just want a non-pro DAW in any case. I did not find the recording delay setting anywhere in Logic Pro X (by the way).

Because of the Yamaha Steinberg driver's penchant for hanging my iMac, I have returned it. While returning I had this discussion at Guitar Center. The guy told me that what I need is an audio interface to take the load away from the Mac.

I am not sure why this will help because the MX was working as a MIDI controller and I was selecting the instrument in GarageBand. I don't expect the keyboard to cause the issue as it is just a midi signal from the keyboard. Also, I did try setting the keyboard DAW setting to "Logic Pro" - made no difference.

I guess getting the audio interface may make sense because now the audio interface will make the sounds rather than the Mac's sound card. And the sound library for East West, is large and "heavy" although it is connected via Samsung 950 Pro thunderbolt connection.

If this works (after I get my new Korg Kross 2 Keyboard and/ or I use the audio interface), I will update this case.
