iMovie 10.1.8 - Why is "join clips" option greyed out?

Hi folks,

I've been using iMovie for a while, and have been using the 'split clip' function regularly. However, I wanted to join two clips together to be able to add a smooth Ken Burns effect which would work seamlessly.

I tried selecting the two adjacent clips in the project timeline and then going to the "join clips"option in the <Modify> menu, but it's greyed out (see below)...

What am I missing?

Thanks very much.

Hi,

The Join Clips function only works to rejoin a clip that you have split. It does not work to join two independent clips.

To join independent clips, you can place them into a newly created project, share out that project to your desktop, and then import the shared out project into your original project. That will join the clips together.
