Amazon winner pop ups on my iPhone

That doesn’t work! I did it twice On my iPad. I even rebooted. I read that it is a virus, but I didn’t find how to remove it. It seems to me, that with so many people affected and asking for help, that Apple would do something about it!

Up Is making the iPhone unusable for Web browsing. I’ve cleared history blocked pop ups and switched java off - all the recomendations and still get congratulations pop-ups. I will give it another month then good bye iPhone as it is unusable.

Thank you for caring enough to respond! I have the "pop up" happening on my iPad. I assume that the steps listed will work with the iPad, also.but, you know what they say about assuming! LOL. I added an ad blocker, which was very easy to do, but now I keep getting messages saying that the sites I visit are affected by the ad blocker. How annoying! All because some idiots out there started this. No wonder I like dogs better than people!

That is the one downside of ad blockers. Advertisers pay a site's operating expenses and staff. They get paid a tenth of a cent (or similar tiny amount) by a vendor each time their ad is displayed. More if the user clicks through to the vendor. Not surprisingly, they get paid nothing if the ads are blocked. Also unsurprisingly then, the site owners aren't happy when you're cutting off their revenue stream.

When a site is set up so I literally can't read an article because it won't let me past their "Uh oh! We see you're using an ad blocker." plea, I just do a web search for part of the article's text. Without fail, you can find the same article hundreds, or thousands of other places where you can read it without being nagged about blocking ads.

Wait, I can’t go back to the New York Times, the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Guardian, etc? I have paid subscriptions to some of those sites. That’s an absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable answer.

Also, FWIW, Android has this same issue. Chrome, Safari, it doesn’t matter.

You’d think Apple would have this under control.

Apple, nor any other company can control the vastness of the Internet. They or third party vendors figure out how to block the current junk, and the people who want you to see it (so they get paid), figure out new ways around those blocks. It's a never ending loop.

This has been happening daily 2 me 2!!! But not on safar rather Chrome (had to move my email there!)

Last night it changed to Congrats New York Ciry users (I live in CA) and then after I hit “ok” (no choice as it freezes) a Chinese looking page w/characters and, I think, codes popped up. I’m tech challenged and quickly got rid of!

Hi Deggie: wow: did that work???? It’s been happening to me but on Chrome (had to move email there). I just had foot/ankle surgery but in 4 weeks will b in walking cast but after (ugh) will go to my local Apple store.

I’ve been going through this. With my old iPhone 6+ and now with my iPhone X. It is ridiculous that Apple will not acknowledge the problem. I have repeatedly tried to read a Wall Street Journal article and cannot because of the Amazon Winner popup.

I finally found the original thread with your solution. I'm so sorry for appearing such an idiot. I'm VERY tech challenged. Ok, wrote every thing you wrote down. Here's my question:

This is happening on Chrome, where my ancient aol. email got moved 3 months ago by an I.T. guy (aol was purchased and he set up new email address on gmail, which I haven't moved to yet, and put my aol on chrome as well. I'm having the Amazon/Walmart pop up every time I'm on my aol. email on Chrome (no longer on Safari). Do I just do what you wrote down only instead of Safari do Chrome? (Again, I apologize for my tech ignorance 🙂

Pop-ups keep occurring despite following the instructions. Most are from Amazon and some are just obscene. They hijack my phone. Who’s behind this? Apple knows about this and yet, does nothing. They’re more than happy to take are hard-earned money, but they sure don’t care about protecting their customers. Guess it’s all about the money, huh Apple?

So just to be clear you read all the posts in the thread, followed instructions, including installing an ad blocker that can handle browser hijacks and you are still getting them? Which one did you install?

You do know this also occurs on all browsers on all operating systems, right? So why is it on Apple to fix it?

You know, with 63 pages of posts, I just didn’t have the time to go through all of them to find the fixes. I saw some on the first 3 pages in between the rants but got lost around page 15.

Could you maybe give me a page number to the most productive fix? Or if you’re a mensch, maybe repeat it?

I can not get rid of the “congratulations you have won” that keeps popping up on one of my devices every time my husband goes on his iPad while in “a/z go comics”. I have cleared the website data and cleared cookies but nothing seems to help

As far as I can tell there are no longer any 32 bit ad blockers. Is there an alternative or do I have to trash a perfectly good piece of hardware? BTW, I am not worried about not getting security updates. That machine is just used as a web browser for news and not used for any purposes that need security.
