Amazon winner pop ups on my iPhone

Eveytime I open my internet on my iPhone 6+ I get this amazon prize winner pop up. I have my phone set to block pop ups on internet, but they come through every single time. It’s annoying and there has to be a way to stop this. Everything was cleared & I made sure my pop up blocking was on. If anyone can help it would be great. Nothing like trying to look something up and having a pop up on your iPhone get in the way.

No one has figured out how to hijack your phone. Someone has hijacked a website you visited. Do the following:

  • Turn on Airplane Mode
  • Go to Settings/Safari and tap Clear History and Website Data
  • double-press the HOME button, find the Safari screen image and swipe it up to close the app
  • Restart your phone
  • Turn Airplane Mode off

This should clear the message. And don't go back to whatever website you were on the first time it happened.

There are lots of ad blocking choices. AdBlock doesn't get very many good reviews anymore. I use AdGuard on all of our Apple devices. The free version for iOS does everything I need. It also gets high marks from most users.

The Mac version of AdGuard is no longer in the App Store. It has to be downloaded from the vendor. Rather than just a Safari plugin, it's now a desktop application. Couldn't tell you why the change.

Never post your email address on a public forum. Spammers will pick it up. I've asked the hosts to remove it.

You needed to read much more of this topic for a current solution. The Solved quote was good enough at the time it was marked. It no longer is. Not unless, that is, you don't mind clearing the data multiple times a day.

The current, best solution is an ad blocker. There are multiple free ones in the App Store. It's been mentioned at least a dozen times throughout this topic.

Clearing the history does work, until you go to any site that generates ads. Then you start all over again.

First step is to install an ad blocker. There are several good free ones in the App Store. That alone will stop over 95% of the ads you see.

Facebook is different. All ad blockers can only block ads on the parent site. When you click through to an article from a Facebook link, you're viewing that site through a child folder of Facebook. That prevents the ad blocker from working and you'll get every ad that linked site pushes. If you were to go to that same site separately, you'll see the ad blocker then works as you would expect. The solution there is to never follow Facebook links to third party sites. If there's something I really want to read, I just do a search for the same headline so I can open that site in its own tab.

I got that from an instant game I played on facebook. I was already running an ad blocker. I cleared my caches as described earlier in this thread, and that didnt fix it. Found that going into facebook settings for Apps and turning off allow access for one called BBQ fixed it for me. Hope this is of some help. Reinstalling facebook will not help bec the settings are stored on facebook not your device.

WHY ARE NOT YOU REPLY?

Uh, because no one here is an Apple employee? This is all unpaid user-to-user help. I answer when I think I can help. More importantly, when I'm here. I don't sit on the computer all day and wait for responses so I can immediately answer.

APPLE NEEDS TO ARE FIX THIS PROBLEM !

Neither Apple or any other company can "fix" the vastness of the Internet. If you know how, Apple, Microsoft and, well, pretty much every single person in the world would love to hear your solution.

INSTALLED ADGUARD SO Now WHat????

Did you enable it? Installing AdGuard isn't the same as active.

Settings > Safari > Content Blockers

Move the switch for AdGuard to green.

You may still need to clear Safari's cache as some of the ads are already on your device.

Agree with what? That Apple can't control the vastness of the Internet?

No, her iPhone isn't useless, and yes, it's just as safe as any other Internet device. And with iOS, the most secure OS currently known to exist, her iPhone is safer than any other device you can currently buy.

It's been said more than once, and I said it in my post right before yours. Get an ad blocker. There are a number of free ones that work very well. All you have to do is open the App Store on your iPhone and get one.

User Tezcatlo has a lot of good points, though one isn't possible.

Last, ALWAYS use https and not http when going to a website as it is more secure.

Can't be done. The site you're going to has to setup secure access on their end before you can use an https connection. Most don't. Simply adding an "s" to the URL isn't going to automatically result in a secure connection. Actually, if they don't have secure access setup, you won't get a connection at all.

If nothing works, then they're not injected ads, but rather ads placed directly on the web site. There is virtually no method available to block those. Also, many "popup" ads aren't popups at all, but a web page designed to look like a popup. Because of that, it's not seen as an ad and doen't get blocked.

If you would, post links to a couple of sites you see ads on over and over. I'd like to see if I get the same results.
