The Owner's Manual indicates that this printer uses
the Samsung Printer Language. Try the Samsung-
GDI pacakge
from linuxprinting.org. Use
the driver for the SCX-4500 which looks to be
similar.

You will also have to install the ESP Ghostscript
that is on that page as well.

I'm not quite sure how or why you got to that page. The link I gave you in the first message should take you to the page that has everything you need. Here is the page link again-- <http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/samsung-gdi/>

Download "samsung-gdi-foomatic-1.0.ppc.dmg" and "espgs-7.05.5-0.ppc.dmg" and install the software from those downloads. Then go to Printer Setup Utility and add your printer. The system will not match your printer to any driver. You will have to manually choose the SCX-4500 model.

To add a printer, Tiger (OS X 10.4.x) users should open the Printer Setup Utility and click on the Add icon at the top of the Printer List window. A new window will open. In that window, click the Default Browser icon at the top left. Highlight your printer in the section below. Use the "Print Using" pop-up menu near the bottom of the window to select the correct PPD for your printer and click Add.

Dear Matt
I have downed load "samsung-gdi-foomatic-1.0.ppc.dmg" and "espgs-7.05.5-0.ppc.dmg" and installed to my laptop. However, when I tried to add a new printer, I did not see the model of scx4500 but ML-4500. When I added this model, the printer was not responding.
then I download the scx-4100 for linux, it showed the process Scx-4100 stopped unexpectedly with status 8.

I am very confused.

very big thanks to you

My apologies for misreading/mistyping the model number. This might still work if you make a change in the Printer Features section under the Copies & Pages pop up menu that appears when you print a job. You can try to set the color mode to Grayscale. The ML-4200 is a color printer while your SCX-4200 is not. That change alone may enable you to print.

Now I'm going to confuse you a bit. I did some searching on the web and found where someone has privately posted the Samsung OS X driver for the SCX-4100. You can download it from <http://www.webxl.net/mm/20041029160919671 SPL2Installer.dmg>. Possible problem: I found mention that this driver does not work in OS X 10.4. I would recommend that you install it anyway and give it a try. If it works, great. You can disregard the rest of this post. If it doesn't, read on.

I also found a reference that said that the Samsung SCX-4200 driver will work in OS X 10.4 and will work with your SCX-4100. You can download that driver from Samsung's site <http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/FileView.aspx?cttfileid =828913&type=Multi Function+Printer&typecode=16&subtype=LaserMFP&subtypecode=&cmssubtypecode=1601&model=SCX-4200&filetype=DR&language=> If you got this far and have needed to install this software, you can try setting up your printer to use the SCX-4200 driver.

Hopefully, one of these options will get your printer working. Let us know how it goes.
