"iMac Pro" kernel crash

I have a new iMac Pro 8core 32gb ram 1tb SSD and Pro Vega 64

(attached are a usb hub, usb audio speakers, usb trackball, thunderbolt 3 raid with a thunderbolt 2 raid chained to it via thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter)

I am looking for input

Within the first 8hours I had two kernel Panics but now seem ok...my iMac shut off and rebooted by itself...both logs have {"caused_by":"macos","macos_system_state":"running","bug_type":"210","os_versio n":"Bridge OS 2.0 .....

To note my Logitech software wasn't recognizing my trackball but it worked ...after crashes I unplugged and replugged the trackball and the software was able to see it.

Should I be concerned?

iMac Pro (2017), macOS High Sierra (10.13.2), null

I can corroborate this. I turned off power nap, disabled file vault, and disabled unlock with apple watch. I've not seen a kernel panic since. I still have the crypto_val: object warning, and I don't have time to deal with that so Im leaving it for now. I also have 2 thunderbolt devices daisy chained.(Universal Audio Apollo 8 and additional UAD satellite) and that hasn't made any difference in the crashing. Im definitely thinking in my case it was Power nap, as letting my iMac sit overnight usually meant I had to hard boot it in the am.

As far as I know I’ve not had a kernel panic since, but it’s possible I had one the other night. I just can’t remember if I turned it off or not. Either way I’m pretty disappointed by this problem. This is probably my 7th Mac and by far the most expensive Mac I’ve purchased. This has had more kernel panics than all my other macs combined.

I have a new iMac Pro 8 core, 32 GB ram, 1 TB SSD and Pro Vega 56. The machine has been crashing regularly when in sleep mode due to the iBridge Type_Bug 210. I tried just about everything suggested on this forum to no avail. Had two more crashes in the last 12 hours. I had three sessions with Apple Support. They believe it is likely to be a hardware problem and suggested the machine is returned. They think the problem does not exist on all Mac Pros. I'll be returning my iMac Pro on Monday.

Has anyone actually resolved this issue and has no more kernel panics due to Bug 210?

I have the same problem (10 core, 1 TB storage) since March the 19th. Since this date, more or less 4-5 restarts / crashes (especially during idle times, sleep wake failiure) per day. No single crash / kernel panic while working even with heavy load! No external equipment!

Today I've installed 10.3.4 Beta 7 without any success :-( Same behavior!

I've tried all described solutions - fresh install, disable security, power nap etc.

Any German member here who could share experience how Apple / a distributor handled this problem in Germany. My iMac Pro is roughly 6 weeks old. Anyone tried to replace the machine.

Hi everyone wondering what to do as I also have random kernel panics mostly at night?

I have a 10 core 64gb 2TB iMac Pro.

Is it worth calling Apple support at this time. Will the same crashes happen if they get me a replacement machine?

Some on here have recommended not daisy chaining on thunderbolt? I bought this machine with the plan of daisy chaining several drives.

Thanks

I had a very nice 2-week engagement with Mike, an Apple engineer, who gave me his “strong, personal recommendation” not to daisy-chain the drives, but keep them on separate ports. He was clear to say this was not an Apple statement, since they support the standard and the standard allows this... but it was abundantly clear how he felt about it... (thanks again, Mike, because I know you read this thread!). Will you have more than 4 drives?

A side comment - I would also try very hard to not have speed mismatches on the TB port. You stick a TB1 device into a TB3-to-TB2 adapter, and put a TB2 device behind that and you’re asking for buffer overruns and problems (like I did - and had!)

That said, it’s of course your decision...

Thx - sysengr-2 🙂

So far so good - 2nd day without a crash / panic during sleep wake up period!

In the past 10 days I had in average 3 panics / crashes per night and no problems during

day / work time!!!

Looks like, that the wake up process during sleep time - caused by the system (either ethernet or power nap or whatsoever) causes the problems, especially by iMac Pros. My regular iMac wasn't rebooted for more than 30 days!

IMHO it is somehow related with the new storage, hibernation mode and / or wake over ethernet.

probable cause a)

when the system changes from different hibernation modes (typically after 3 hours of sleep) and tries to write the memory image to disc

probable cause b)

system gets an wake up event other than USB / bluetooth e.g ethernet or powernap

In both cases somehow the new (high speed) storage is involved this would explain why

- only iMac Pros affected

- the energy settings would have impact on dead or alive 😁

Pls keep in mind that everybody who is desperately waiting for 10.3.4 (as I was) will be disappointed, because I've already tested 10.3.4 Beta 7 without any success! (see my earlier post)

Anyway I'm happy that I do not have to swap my machine (at least for now).

Great! Supports my earlier comments but you took it much further!

Now when you run First Aid on your active SSD, do you get these errors in each snapshot?

warning: crypto_val: object (oid 0x4): invalid state.major_version (0)

warning: crypto_val: object (oid 0x4): invalid state.key_os_version (0x0)
