"iMac Pro" kernel crash

I have a new iMac Pro 8core 32gb ram 1tb SSD and Pro Vega 64

(attached are a usb hub, usb audio speakers, usb trackball, thunderbolt 3 raid with a thunderbolt 2 raid chained to it via thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter)

I am looking for input

Within the first 8hours I had two kernel Panics but now seem ok...my iMac shut off and rebooted by itself...both logs have {"caused_by":"macos","macos_system_state":"running","bug_type":"210","os_versio n":"Bridge OS 2.0 .....

To note my Logitech software wasn't recognizing my trackball but it worked ...after crashes I unplugged and replugged the trackball and the software was able to see it.

Should I be concerned?

iMac Pro (2017), macOS High Sierra (10.13.2), null

For anyone else who was looking for more info on this topic and owns an iMac pro base model like me:

I was getting kernel panics, mostly while using Premiere/After Effects, also my wifi would sometimes freak out.

Took to apple care, they replaced the logic board, didn't help. After chatting with Apple support they said it was related to the software on the computer not being able to contact a server and freaking out, making it kernel panic and restart.

I have little snitch installed on my computer to monitor internet traffic, I uninstalled it and used the open source software Lulu instead and it completely fixed my problem. The computer has not had a single kernel panic in over a week, it used to have a panic 2-3 times per day while doing video editing.

Hope that helps someone else. I'll be avoiding Little Snitch from now on.

I hear you. Yes having exactly same issues - System - iMacPro (2017) MacOS Mojave V 10.14.2, 3Ghz Intel Xeon W Memory 128GB 2666 MHz DDR4, 10 Cores, Radeon Pro Vega 56 8176 MB - purchased mid 2018, with extended Apple care warranty - set me back $15,000 AU.

I seem to get the Kernel panic, finder crash and auto reboot when I run a large project using EW Play and Hollywood Strings Diamond ed on Logic Pro. I am also using VEPRO on the same machine for the loading of project. This helps immensely with Audio inside Logic project (my orchestral template is 2,500 midi tracks, basically the full Hollywood Orchestra Diamond Ed. loaded) I have done a fresh reinstall of OS today after crash yesterday.

Have read all forums here and turned off Power nap and disconnected daisy chain EXHDD. I have 2 EXSSD's connected via dedicated Th.3 leads where libraries are stored. I have HWStrings diamond on one and the other HW Orchestra families on the other. Currently testing the largest String multi patches in Play standalone and they seem to be loading fine and load way quicker btw. About to run VEPRO and load the string patches and connect to Logic project again to see if it crashes. Will update.

Since September 2018, I have had many kernel panics and finder crashes, restarted with the strange colours, no bluetooth, no sound available, colour issues - blues were orange and oranges were blue, reported to apple they gave me fixes (reset, reboot in Recovery do first aid, asked me to update to Mojave which I did all - worked for a few days, crash again, had to reinstall from scratch 3 times so far. Tried to disconnect all drives and anything that was not Apple, still problem persisted. I use computer for a Music Production and audio business so some products and plugins are 3rd party by default so cannot get around that one. Took to Apple certified service centre where they ran diagnostics and replaced GPU. Got it home and within 2 days, bingo - restarted by itself finder phrases, kernel panics........ on and on and on.

Read these forums, filevault was already off and turned off power nap.

Hoping it is power nap, fingers crossed as I load up a half finished client project due mid February.

Hope we can all enjoy our beautiful machines that promise to be a working professionals delight.

My next step is open another ticket and demand a fix, new machine or at least some more answers but I take advice from these forums and stick to my guns. After all, $15,000 AU is a lot of money to spend. I have been a Mac user since Apple, IIe and all models since, back in the 80's and early 90's (I have a museum collection of old machines) and have been contemplating getting a specially build DAW PC instead.

Hope I am not carrying a dead bunny.

Best to all,

Wayne

Yep I have 10 Core 128GB RAM Vega 56 run Audio/Midi and crashes kernel panics every day. Too many times have I reinstalled OS. My case has been escalated to High priority by Apple support and it is being "looked at" again tomorrow by Apple service centre. 3rd time I have taken my $15000 computer for a drive. Another week in the studio back to using the old trusty MacBook Pro with 16GB ram Quadcore to get some work done on client projects. At least it is not a T2 baby and does not crash or have kernel panics. Wish I could install 10 Cores and 128GB RAM into it and I would be a happy camper. I have been shopping around for someone to build me a Pro DAW PC - did I just write that? (I have been a Mac Apple fan boy since Apple IIe back in the late 80's).

Hey I get the Finder Crash and kernel panic, restart thing running big Logic Pro X projects. 10 Core iMac Pro 128B RAM Vega 56. Does not matter if I load project in Logic Pro X or Cubase or using VEPRO to host the samples, Logic Pro X runs fine , big Orchestral template, around 86GB RAM and happens when I am using Play by east west and loading Hollywood Strings Diamond. I have spent the last 5 months trying different scenarios, replicating on my 4yr old MacBook Pro - albeit a smaller size template (which does not crash as it does not have T2 the devil baby) I get the "play cannot find sample XXXX please reinstall ....." and then the finder crashes, lose my hard drive icons cannot save anything, have to reboot, and often, have to reinstall OS as the screen is bright orange and no volume and no bluetooth upon restarting. I have tried so many variables, disconnect all peripherals, et al ad nauseam..... (I am an experienced Mac user from the 80's) and it still does this crash, panic, random restart, dodgy dodgy dodgy - Maybe I should have spent the $15000 on a brand new Hyundai car which may have given me less grief? (N.B. I hate Hyundai cars).

My iMac Pro 10 core has started having Kernel Panics in recent weeks. A few a week. Often when idle. Only peripheral that is involved is Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adaptor for my RME 802 audio interface. Up until recently this set up had very few if any Kernel Panics. I haven't changed anything in my set up either. Diagnostics and Disk utility reveal nothing different. Bit of a mystery.

Thanks. Yeah I'm aware of an issue with the adaptor. But for some reason I've had very few if any Kernel Panics since May of last year when I got the iMac Pro. Nothing has changed in my set up. Only factor I can think of right now is that a third-party plug-in in Logic Pro X is crashing the iMac Pro. That or the size of my Logic Pro X projects, which are quite large at the moment.

Hey folks I am having exactly the same problem... (iMac Pro 10Core/32G/1TB/56) and it sounds to ME (IMHO) it's the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapters! They just can't take the strain. I have 3 LaCie drives, one black SSD 1TB, 1 3TB LaCie D2 and 1 10TB LaCie D2. And a Synology DS411+ NAS, but that doesn't seem to play into this. Anyway, I'm following through this incredibly useful thread and have turned off Power Nap first. By the way, my support advisor said to boot in safe mode which I did, and I had no issues. Sounds like a 3rd party extension, right? But when you boot in safe mode a bunch of internal settings get reset, and I'm betting Power Nap is one of them! Anyway, will let you know.

But let me ask please??? is anybody having any other strange iMac Pro issues? For me with 10 cores, I wanted to see them perform graphically, so I brought up Activity Monitor, clicked on CPU and then did Command-3 which brings up the individual CPU History bars. Well I ended up with these strange artifacts trampling the display. This only started today! Thanks again.

I'm having this issue as well. The first occurrence was after the second-most recent OS update. I disabled power nap and unplugged thunderbolt 2-to-thunderbolt 3 adapters (which I had two plugged in). I just installed the most recent update last night (10.13.3) and when I came into work this morning the error came back again.

So I called Apple Support this morning and the agent had me reset the SMC and NVRAM, booted in safe mode, and ran a hard disk first aid. She provided me a case number in case the issue comes back again.

Sorry for this intrusion, but I want to get to this threads followers and contributors... I wanted to say the original iMac Pro hasn't failed in months after removing all the checks in the sleep settings and separating the attached drives.

But something interesting is happening.
I always leave activity monitor running with "Command-3" window showing (the individual processor core / hyperthread bar charts) to gauge the CPU use.
Suddenly, I'm getting these random core spikes showing up.
I didn't screen grab the really busy ones I saw, which I should have done, but here's an example of just a couple spikes.
Not thinking it's the 10.13.4 update, that was back in March.
Any ideas or similar situations?

Does it still crash if you just use Wifi and don't use the Ethernet port at all/turn off the Ethernet port in System Preferences -> Network? Obviously that doesn't really help you use the machine the way you need to, but it would be interesting to see if it still gives you panics.

I've tried disabling all Secure Boot functions and disabling Power Nap, and I still get panics. You've tried disconnecting all your Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adaptors, and you still get panics. The thing you and I are both still using though is the Ethernet port, and from your initial post that seems to be a likely culprit.

I had my Ethernet port manually set to "full-duplex, flow-control" as per another thread (Imac Pro - Crash when copy over 200GB on SMB !?), but I'm going to try turning it off in System Preference -> Network to see if that makes any difference.
