review personal videos

I have a 16 GB iPhone 6 and it's full. However, I've been given the option to "review personal videos". This would clear up quite a bit of space.

I also use iClould Photo Library so all of my videos are on iCloud

My question is:

If I delete them from the "review personal video" menu do the videos remain on iCloud? That is, are they only deleted locally?

I really don't want to lose these videos!

iPhone 6, iOS 11.2.2, 16 GB

iCloud Photo Library - Apple Support

because you're syncing to icloud if you delete from one device it will delete from the other device.

Look into google phots - back up everything to that and then you can delete it off your phone.

I want to know what the 'review personal videos' section in the manage space setting does. When I select delete there it asks if I want to remove it from iPhone but does not say what happens to iCloud.

When I turn off photo sync it is clear. Remove from iPhone and keep on iCloud. I would just like clarity on the option in the setting app.

I don't know how to get this so you can understand, those person videos is coming a. directly from your photo app in videos and since you sync to icloud iCloud Photo Library - Apple Support when you delete from one area it deletes it from the other area.

A test - email said video to yourself so you have a copy of it. Then go back to your personal video and delete that video and see what happens in your photo app and in icloud.

I know exactly what you are saying, if I were to be deleting photos from my photos app, while sync'd to iCloud.

What I'm not clear on, is if you understand what the 'manage storage' setting is doing (as you never referred to it).

For example, the iPhone (with optimized storage) is constantly 'deleting' photos from your iPhone. But it keeps them on iCould (and a thumbnail on your iPhone). This is what @razmee209 had neglected to address... a delete from iPhone is not necessary a delete from iCloud (in this case it was, see below).

That being said. To be safe, I have:

- I turned off iCloud sync.

-- you get "this delete from iPhone but not iCloud" -- Excellent news!

- use storage manager to delete videos -- got free space, yay!

- check photos -- videos are gone, boo

- check iCloud -- videos are there, yay!

@razmee209, you seemed to be right that it would have removed my videos from iCloud, had I left the sync on.

A little more control and verboseness would be useful here.

I know that is true if I delete from photos, but "review personal video" not in the photos app. It is in the settings app under 'manage storage'.

I have a feeling this is more like if you wipe your phone -- you don't wipe iCloud, it's a backup.

This is the confusing part as these photos should not be on my phone to begin with! They should be stored in iCloud and only downloaded when I view them -- then my understanding is that they would be 'cleaned up' again at some point later. Keeping my usage low.

It appears that when they were 're-downloaded' to my phone they were never deleted (not optimized).

I'm not interested in moving to another service at this point as I've already gone through the hassle of uploading 10s of GB of photos/videos over the years.

you can confirm that these videos aren't in your photo app - videos?

As stated if you're syncing to icloud and you delete it from iPhone it will delete it off icloud and vice versa.

Syncing and backing up to icloud are 2 different things.
