How do I transfer photos from Messenger to Photos

How do I transfer photos from Messenger to Photos

In Messenger there is a box with an up arrow at the top left of a photo, when it is selected. One of the options is to "Add to Photos". Where does the photo go in Photos. I have done several photos and none of them are in Photos. Nothing recently here on this problem.

Can someone tell me how to get photos from Messenger to Photos and when there, how can I find them. They are not in the master Photo library sorted by date.

Help please!

What version of Photos are you using? With Photos 3.0 and Messages 11.0 one much first Control (right) - click on the photo and select Add to Photos Library from the contextual menu:

The photos will be at the bottom of the Imports window:

Exactly what I needed to know. Yes, I'm running Photos 3.0 and Messenger 11.0. Wonder why this wasn't working. It moved the photos and also put them into the main Photos library at the right date point.

I saw a reference that there needed to be a folder in Pictures named System Photo Library. There was not such a folder, so I created it. But the new photos are not there. I did go to Photos Preferences and checked the box, "Copy Items to the Photo Library" . I see a path there for Pictures > Photos Libraryphotoslibray. Also now see in Pictures this same path. Don't think they were there before.

Photos seems to be difficult to understand and to navigate. Guess I need to spend more time with it.
