Will Apple RAID card charge battery while Mac sleeps?

Hi everyone.

I've got Mac Pro 2009 - I've bought Apple RAID card (newest version with black board) I've got no error messages about dead battery - will it charge that battery while Mac Pro will go sleep/deep sleep?

I don't want to waste energy running that Mac for over 12 hours 😟

Thank You 🙂

Mac Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.2), 2009 but 5,1

...then let it sleep and see if it is going to make any progress. You may want to start the hunt for a replacement battery.

If the battery IS charged, on write, the card signals completion to the OS when the data are written to the card (and the checksums are computed and the drive data are asynchronously written moments later, protected from loss by the battery).

If the battery is NOT charged, the card operates slightly differently: On write, the card computes the checksums, writes the data to the drives, and only signals completion to the OS when completed, a somewhat slower process.

there are few of them on eBay - but the lowest price is £60 😟

I'm thinking about inner battery replacement like here done - Apple Xserve/Mac Pro RAID Card Battery Repair - iFixit such a battery cost me £4 - the worse what can happen...it still won't work and £4 loss.

But when I see possibility it might work because it wasn't conditioned for 7 years - it is worth to try to fix it and ask community if someone have had such a problem.

Like that crazy situation what I've found that if Mac Pro shut down/restart done... lets say after 3 hours - conditioning is started from beginning not even given message about that how long time left to do that process

oh that's so true about those dying batteries

Thank You Grant for helping me.

In mean time I wait what will happen after 7 hours (as many reports it is charging in that time - but Apple says... 72 hrs)

After 3hrs so far - I've got no progres on that battery bar in RAID Utility.

I know that if I decide to switch off even restart Mac Pro - all conditioning will start from all over again 😟

after 8hrs still nothing.

Just found out in "System Report" it has status: Faulted battery - last conditioned in.... 2011 - BUT no error message in RAID Utility app (I've have had such a message having Xserve 2009) so I knew battery was bad - but here no error message.

Is it possible to be Battery is Faulted because last conditioned in 2011?

That would be strange because conditioned 7 years ago and because of that Faulted.

I wonder if Mac switched for longer time would fix that.

Lest say Grant - I believe even in 16 years old Apple batteries working - I see it personally im my the iPod (first ever build) - so this one is about 10 years younger - who knows - maybe it wasn't used since that - the reason last conditioned status 2011?

P.S. Fire is not a problem - problem is toxic gas

P.S.2. Grant - what does mean in "System Report" I've got battery info:

Charging: yes

Conditioning: no
