I have a USB switch to work with the same keyboard and tablet on my mac and pc.
After a few "switches" the mac doesn't see the keyboard and tablet anymore, when I switch to another USB port on the mac it becomes visible again... I can do this 4 times (4 USB ports on the mac) and then I need to force a restart, very frustrating... any solutions for this?

Sounds like something is tripping the built-in overloads of the Mac's USB port(s).
I would try,
1. different cables
2. a different USB switch
3. a hub between the switch and Mac

If that does not help, then I would suspect the switch. It maybe faulty or shorting and feeding back USB port power from the PC to the Mac when you are switching from one to the other.
