Can't Login to Podcasts Connect

I am trying to log in @ https://itunesconnect.apple.com/login?module=PodcastsConnect&hostname=podcastsco nnect.apple.com&targetUrl=%2F&failUrl=%2F with the above apple ID, and one of two things is happening:

  • I am logged into and automatically redirected to the iTunes Connect dashboard, which offers no navigation option to Podcasts Connect.
  • A terms of service agreement dialogue box pops up, on which I select the checkbox agreeing to the terms and click the accept button. The dialogue box closes, and I am redirected back to the Podcast Connect login page once again. There is no limit to how many times it will perform this loop of death.

There is no perceivable rhyme or reason as to why one or the other happens. I have tried logging in on multiple systems/OS (Windows 10, Mac, iOS), and multiple browsers on each (Firefox, Edge, Chrome) and the same thing happens on all of them. I also called into Apple Support and the specialist said there’s no reason my Apple ID shouldn’t work. I’m perplexed, please help.

Thanks,

Josh

Alright so I managed to find a fix.

Apparently you need to have a device attached to your Apple-ID in some form or fashion. Don't ask me why because to that I'm oblivious.

This can either be done through using a Apple device with the Apple-ID you want to use to add Podcasts on. Or go to iTunes - Log in with the ID you want to use and then in the top bar press Account>Authorization>Authorize this computer.

And then login at https://podcastsconnect.apple.com , Voila.

Brought to you by the GO.Live Gaming Podcast. Where we, apparently, also provide support the Apple support can't.

Both my laptop and my phone are already authorized (though I did try to do it again) and when I logged into Podcasts Connect right after it did the "immediately redirect to iTunes Connect" option of the two undesirable outcomes. 😟

Someone else in my long pilgrimage for a solution suggested something akin to this, so I've tried logging out and logging back in as well.

They did. They suggested this flowchart:

Thank you for contacting us regarding your Podcast Connect account. I understand that when you attempt to sign in, you are getting redirected back to the log in page, rather than being able to manage your podcasts.

In researching your inquiry, I have checked our system status sites and both are currently showing all systems as operational:

https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/
https://developer.apple.com/system-status/

I have also attempted to recreate the redirect you are describing and have been unsuccessful. In order for me to be able to better assist you, please attempt the following browser troubleshooting steps:

• Clear cache and cookies
• Ensure your Apple ID can download content from iTunes (add/remove CC on file, download a piece of free content, etc.)
• Use a private browser window (In Safari, File > New Private Window)
• Ensure that you are using https://podcastsconnect.apple.com, and not https://itunesconnect.apple.com

If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the redirect, please respond with the following information so I may investigate further:

• Click-by-click description of steps to reproduce the issue
• Full-window screenshots illustrating the issue in the latest version of Safari showing the complete URL (or video)
• Web browser and version number
• System Information (device model and OS version number)
• Approximate date and time the error most recently occurred (including time zone)
• Apple ID
• Are you running any Ad blocking plugins or extensions: (Y/N)
• Last time you logged in successfully to manage your podcasts

Which did not work, being mostly "Are you an idiot?" steps, but I hadn't tried the private browser window angle so at least we've started troubleshooting. Sent them all the info, we'll see what happens. Should we actually arrive at a solution, I'll do my best to remember to post it here. My producing partner on the podcast was fortunately able to use his Apple ID on his computer to get it submitted without (too much, anyhow) difficulty, so it does work for some!

Hi Josh,

That sounds frustrating. For the account you are logging in with, have you used the account to login to the iTunes Store on iOS or iTunes on Mac/Win? The FAQ notes an Apple ID must be "activated for use in the iTunes Store" to use Podcasts Connect. (link)

No navigation option to Podcasts Connect usually means your account hasn't been activated for use in the iTunes Store (see instructions above).

That makes me think this is related to your account. Can you login with a different account that has been previously used in the iTunes Store? Another way to "activate" an Apple ID is to download a free app.

All support for Podcasts Connect is available through email, by clicking "Contact Us" at https://itunespartner.apple.com/podcasts.

Calling into Apple Support means you may be speaking with an Advisor who isn't familiar with the Podcasts Connect tool.

Summarized:

1. Login to the iTunes Store (On iOS, launch the iTunes Store app and login. On Mac/Win, launch iTunes. Click Account > Sign In... and follow the steps to setup your billing / mailing address / title / name / etc. You can logout once complete).

2. Then, login to Podcasts Connect (https://podcastsconnect.apple.com). What was the result?

3. If the above did not work, login to Podcasts Connect with a different Apple ID that has been used in the iTunes Store.

4. Contact Apple Podcasts support for further assistance.

Report back and let us know how it goes!

I tried it on a browser I wasn't logged onto it with and got a login page with the URL you quote. However when I logged in it went to podcastsconnect correctly.

Can you try it on a different browser, or clear the cache on your current one? I think there may be a very quick redirect after you've signe in, which in your case seems not to have taken.

As I mentioned in the original post, I've tried on multiple OS platforms and browsers with the same result. I've seen other posts on here where people are having the same issue of being redirected directly to iTunes Connect from the Podcasts Connect login, so I don't think I'm alone in having difficulties. Perhaps something is awry on Apple's end.

I've sent in a query to podcastsupport@apple.com also, so perhaps they'll have an idea what's up.

Yes, the apple ID being used has been active in the iTunes store for about a decade. I've logged in and out of iTunes with the ID multiple times. I also tried another ID I created solely for this purpose, on my windows laptop, and got the same result.

The apple support person I spoke to definitely was not familiar with podcasts connect, but to his credit he did extensive due diligence to hunt down what information he could, and insisted that the apple ID should be fully functional for any and all apple services based on what he could see on his end.

I emailed podcasts connect support (thanks to the rep with Apple support guiding me to the email address) weeks ago, and after a few rudimentary suggestions off the FAQ along these lines, has went radio silent.

What appears to be happening is that if you're not signed in and you go to https://podcastsconnect.apple.com/ you get redirected to the login page, which is on itunesconnect: once signed in you go to the iTunes Connect page and shhould be instantly redirected to Podcasts Connect, but this is failing in some cases. I just tried it in Chrome, where I am not signed in (not my normal browser) and this routine worked as expected, so I don't know why some people are getting stuck with iTunes Connect.

I believe ultimately what we're seeing here are the side effects of Apple doing backend work on the iTunes system. Every time they do, this kinda quirky behavior appears. Other than contacting Support, I don't think there's much that can be done.

It'd be nice if Apple were more transparent about these situations, but they never make any public statements about it.

All of my podcasts have STOPPED updating and I'm still unable to loginbecause of this loop. Has anyone found a solution?

Your podcasts not updating is probably not related to the sign-in problem, since you don't need to sign in to add an episode. Please start a new thread - don't tack onto this one as it will just confuse the issue - and post the URLs of your Store page and feed, and I'll see whether there is a problem with the feed.
