Apple Watch Series 3 - Turn Off Messages?

New to Apple Watch. Is there a way to completely disable messages (ie, not just notifications) on the Apple Watch? I can do so on the iPad and MacBook Pro, but don’t seem to be able to on the watch. The issue is I don’t plan on using the watch for messaging, so by the time I look down, I have a dozen or more text conversations that have synced from my phone. If the answer is no, is there at least a way to delete all text conversations simultaneously rather than doing so one by one? Thanks for your help.
