How do I download Java 3D and Java Advanced Imaging for High Sierra (10.13.2)?

My college course has a component to visually see hydrogen orbitals, but it requires Java 3D and Java Advanced Imaging. How do I download this on High Sierra (10.13.2)?

FWIW and I'm sure you'll not agree, get it working in Windows if that is what others are using then take the time to figure out how to do it with the Mac side. When I was in University I didn't have time to get sidetracked trying to get already working tools working on another system. I'm sure the professor is going forward with his class rather than spending time trying to get a tool working on a system that no one is using the tool on.

Well, that was a vague answer by me when it can apply to either part of your question. Let's try it again.

So are Java 3D and Advanced Imaging included or are they a separate download?

According to what I've found on the subject, 3D and Advanced Imaging for Java is already installed by the OS. Or, more specifically, the underlying structure that can't do anything without the runtime installed.

Apple’s “latest” is a deprecated Java, so I’m not sure it will work but I’m willing to try it.

For your classwork, it may not. About the only reason for its existence is to run older Java apps that reside directly on your Mac. The OS will not allow it to attach to a browser.

The latest release of Java 6 is also very easy to remove (the previous was almost impossible to remove manually). You simply go to the /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/ folder and toss the subfolder 1.6.0jdk in the trash. That's it. Gone.
