How do I put the Macintosh HD icon on my desktop?

Hi. I want to put the Macintosh HD icon on my desktop for ease of use. I don't seem to be able to do this though. Is this really not doable or is there a clever way of doing it. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks.

Launch Finder from the Dock

Using the Menu bar, click onFinderthen click onPreferences...

Under the General tab, you can see that only External disks and CDs, DVDs and iPods are selected by default to be displayed on the desktop. To display the hard disk icon on the desktop, select the checkbox beside Hard disks

Once selected, the changes are applied instantly and you can see now the Macintosh HD icon displayed on the desktop.
