Where are my Pages documents after IOS 11.2.2 update

After the most recent IOS update many of my documents in Pages disappeared. That and my files App were not working. I verified that I was connected and backing up to icloud. I deleted both and reinstalled and restarted and hard restarted my IPad Pro. This helped, both apps are functioning now, but I have many missing files. Where are there and how do I get them back?!

I use my IPad solely. No desktop and I operate two businesses from it. It has been fantastic, until now. I need those files.

Hello Terralynn,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are having issues with missing files in the Pages and iCloud Drive apps on your iPad. To help with this, please start with these steps:

What if I don't see all of my files?

When you turn on iCloud Drive, any documents that you already store in iCloud automatically move to iCloud Drive. You can see your files on iCloud.com, in the Files app on iOS 11 and later, in the Pages, Numbers, and Keynote apps, or in the iCloud Drive app on iOS 10 and iOS 9.

If you don’t see your files in any of those locations, make sure that you set up iCloud Drive on all of your devices. If you don't see the files from your Mac Desktop and Documents folder on iCloud.com, go to System Preferences > iCloud, then click Options next to iCloud Drive and make sure that it's turned on.

If you need to access a file that you deleted within the last 30 days, you can get it back from the Recently Deleted folder in the Files app, or on iCloud.com. After 30 days, your files are removed from Recently Deleted.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the Files app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. Go to Locations > Recently Deleted.
  3. Select the file that you want to keep.
  4. Tap Recover.

On iCloud.com

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com from your Mac or PC.
  2. Go to iCloud Drive and click Recently Deleted items in the bottom-right corner.
  3. Select the file that you want to keep.
  4. Tap Recover.

Something similar here—when I updated to 11.2, all my iCloud documents seemed to be missing: the Files app Browse mode was empty and the location listed at the top of the screen was some random subdirectory with no Back button to get out of it, and "0 files" listed at the bottom. The missing files couldn't even be found by searching.

Force-quitting Files did not help. (And the file browser inside Numbers acted the same.) A full reboot of my iPad made the Back button appear so I could get out of that random directory and see my files again.

Note that on my 2 Macs, iPhone, and iCloud.com, all the files were still there. It was a bug on my iPad only.

Makes me pretty nervous about continuing to use iCloud though...

I suggest you get a real computer to run your businesses. No matter what Tim Cook told you, Ipads are not "supercomputers" and they cannot replace actual desktops or laptops. For example if you have a real computer with iTunes on it, you can backup documents to it. That is more reliable than iCloud as you have found out. The iPad is fine as an adjunct device, but it cannot replace a real computer.
