No, there is no mute button, plug your headphones to your phone if you don't want audio to play from apps to be heard in public.

You can turn on Do Not Disturb. That should mute everything except an alarm if you have one set. Make sure you have all of the settings in DND correct to not allow repeat calls, or calls from favorites, and that Silence is set to Always.

It will turn off all incoming calls. You asked for all sounds to be silent, so that is what I gave you.
