How do get an image in a Mail signature to render sharp?
Images in my Mail signatures no longer render sharp. This has been happening for several versions of the Mac OS. has anyone found a solution?

The settings are applied while composing an email. At any rate, at 200x86, even at 300 dpi there's only 86 vertical and 200 horizontal pixels/dots to render the signature. Imagine if your screen resolution was 200x86 what sort of detail you would have. Try a larger image for the signature. You can scale it when composing.

The quick answer is, the higher the resolution (dpi) of the image, the better the clarity. Using .png files v. jpgs also helps.
I have never seen those options in creating signatures under preferences in Mail. I resized the graphic to 200x86 @300 dpi.
No need for apologies. I understood what you meant. I was just trying to explain a 200x86 image is too small to hold much detail. I may not be explaining things well. Perhaps someone else will join in. I have to go for now.
Just to add, if you take a 200x86 image and print it at 1dpi, it would be 200"x86". If printed at 300dpi, it would be .67"x.29". Same image, same number of "dots".
My apologies. I meant to say ppi. Anyway, I don’t think you understand my issue. This is an issue which did not used to occur, then started occurring somewhere about El Capitan. It has been discussed in the past. I was trying to see if anyone had found a solution. When I attach an image inline to an email I use the small, medium, large, actual dropdown to size appropriately.
I am referring to using an image in the preset signature in Mail. They are found at Mail>Preferences>Signatures. You can create multiple standard email signatures to be used across multiple email accounts. You do not have to scale when composing because they are preset. In the past when you added a graphic file to your preset signature it would display properly. It does not do so now. Perhaps you could try it for yourself and see if you can recreate my problem.
In general this would be true. However it does not apply in this case. A 300 dpi .png while sharp when opened, renders “fuzzy” in the Mail signatures.
Are you talking on screen or printed or at the recipient?
It appears as if it is in very low resolution on screen as I compose, printed & to the recipient. It is as if Mail downsizes the image in creating the signature.

Do you have the Signature set as Small, Medium, Large or Actual Size? What's the dimensions of the image?
