amazon prime working with apple tv model MC572LL/A

Amazon Prime is available on the 3rd Generation Apple TV as a channel. Its automatically pushed from the server, no update required.

It is not available on older Apple TVs unfortunately.

For 4th Gen and 4K Apple Tvs, its just an App download from the store.

Well, then, I am mistaken. I was under the impression that only the versions of the ATV that could download apps were able to access it. If a software update gave it to you, that's great. In that case, it should work for the OP.

That model number is for an ATV 2nd Generation. It doesn't support the downloading of apps. So, no, you can't get Amazon Prime Video on that device.

I have a 3rd gen ATV, recently (not exactly sure when) it grew a gateway to Amazon Prime, no download involved, a system update did it. Is the gen 2 not the same?

I did not download it, it arrived all by itself one day. I assume it was from a tvOS update. If the ATV3 gets any better it will be as good as my TV is.

So not the ATV 2 (which seemed pretty much the same as the ATV 3 to me)? If not, then, my answer to the OP was right for the wrong reasons.

Yup. The ATV 2 did not get the Prime Channel as far as I know, no.
