apple watch vs a fitbit blaze

so I currently own a fitbit blaze and I love it, especially for the fitness aspect but I have seen where the apple watch and its supporting apps can do the same things.

So what would be the benefit of me buying an apple watch versus keeping my fitbit? I know the series 3 apple watch has a gps + cellular feature which would allow me to use my watch on the go without having to have my phone on me. But is that really the only benefit of it?

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Ive done some comparisons on the different watches apple watches available but I'd like to hear from those that have the watches

iPhone 7, iOS 11.0.1

I went from a Blaze to the AppleWatch series 3 and would never go back. Pros and cons -

AW doesn’t track sleep unless you purchase an app (realized I know how I slept and don’t miss it).

Way more durable - cracked the screen on my Blaze twice, not a scratch on the AW and I’ve bumped and banged it.

AW calories burned is reflective of exercise, not overall. First day when I set that goal I was like 2,000, easy. Then I barely hit 500...

AW - love changing the “face” to fit moods!

Miss the Fitbit interactions - AW is nothing like that. It’s personal so you have to find your own motivation.

Fitbit focus is primarily steps and minutes based on steps. AW is based on heart rate changes and way easier to track different exercises.

AW doesn’t log food, you need an app for that.

AW syncs to wireless ear buds for music, no phone needed even on the non-cellular version.

The dashboard on the AW app is very different but easy to see/follow.

Fitbit has 250 steps per hour and you set the time frame. AW knows when it’s on and expects you to move for one minute each hour so it can be squats, lunges, anything that gives an increase I. Heart rate rather than just stepping in place.

AW through most places has a 4 week return policy. My plan was buy it and if in 25 days I didn’t still love it, I would return in. It’s been 8 weeks and I sold my Blaze on Facebook. LOL

Hi

I suggest that you consider visiting an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorised Reseller for assistance with learning about Apple Watch and with viewing, trying on and choosing between available models.

Keep in mind that:

  • Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) requires an iPhone 6 or newer with the latest version of iOS.
  • Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) and all other models require an iPhone 5s or newer with the latest version of iOS.
  • Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Features

All models of Apple Watch can be used, for example, to make calls and to send and receive messages, subject to connectivity (see the further information below for more details):

Tracking steps

Once it has been set up, the Activity app tracks your steps automatically in the background, both during general daily wear and during workouts:

Use the Activity app on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

It is not possible to change any of the Activity app goal rings to reflect distance or steps taken or to show distance or steps on the watch face via any other built-in complication

Your daily steps and distance totals, for example, can be viewed:

  • Via the Activity app on your watch:

Open the app and scroll to the bottom of the screen.

  • Via the Activity app on your iPhone:

Select to view a day's results, then scroll to the bottom to see Steps and Distance.

  • Via the Health app on your iPhone:

However, if you would like to see steps and distance reported on the watch face, then you can use a third-party app and add a complication:

Apps that you may wish to consider include, for example:

Pedometer++ on the App Store

  • Integrates with the Health app and offers watch face complications:

Stepz - Step Counter on the App Store

Watch My Health on the App Store

HealthDash for Health App - Activity Dashboard on the App Store

More information about fitness-related features, which include three daily Activity app goals with built-in coaching reminders, is available here:

Differences between models

Differences between Series 1 and Series 3 models include that Series 3 models offer:

  • A faster processor.
  • A higher level of water resistance.
  • Siri speaks.
  • A brighter display (twice as bright).
  • Built-in GPS.
  • A barometric altimeter (used to track flights climbed during general daily wear and, during outdoor workouts, elevation gain).
  • A USB Power Adapter is included.

All models of Apple Watch include support for connecting to a compatible Wi-Fi network if a Bluetooth connection with the paired iPhone is not available (see the related below).

Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) models also include a built-in cellular feature. This requires a service plan for your iPhone that specifically includes support for the watch, including the carrier activating the watch on the plan. An activation fee and additional monthly fee may apply - contact your carrier for details:

Other differences between Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) models and Series 3 (GPS) models include that (GPS + Cellular) models:

  • Have double the storage capacity of GPS-only models.
  • Have a ceramic back (instead of a composite back).
  • Are compatible with Apple's recently announced AirPower wireless charging mat, which is due to be released this year:

    AirPower mat

  • Include options for Stainless Steel and Space Black Stainless Steel cases (all GPS-only models are aluminium).
  • Stainless Steel and Ceramic (Edition) case models have a sapphire crystal, which is more scratch resistant than Ion-X Glass.

Using Apple Watch away from your iPhone

The functions that are available on Apple Watch when it is away from your iPhone depend on various factors including:

Features and requirements that apply under various circumstances are detailed here, including within the footnotes:

I have a Watch 2 and am about to ask for a second replacement. My purpose for the watch is exercise tracking and it falls very short on accuracy. The first watch was off in recording HR and the second one is just as bad, if not worst. With the second watch, my calorie burned is even lower than the first watch.

I have a few issues with the watch, but the biggest is the HR accuracy. For instance, my watch had my HR at 49 during a workout. I’m pretty sure my HR is NEVER that low.

Buy with caution.

I've had a fitbit and enjoyed it, but 'wore' out 3 of them and don't think I am a rough user.

I've had both the Series 1 and 2 Apple Watches and enjoyed both, now have the Series 3 GPS & Cell and am very happy with it.

The Series 3 is bright, fast and I like having only 1 device to track all my needs. The ability to now leave my iPhone at home or in the office when out for a run is a huge plus.

I still have Cell Coverage plus can use the GPS and also listen to Music while out for a run. I like the barometric altimeter (used to track flights climbed during general daily wear and, during outdoor workouts, elevation gain).

My office is on the 13th Floor and I try to use the stairs as often as possible just to see the flights climbed, it works for me!
