Duplicated Media between libraries in FCPX

I am creating video compilations in FCPX.

Footage often goes back and forth between different libraries multiple times as previous compilations are re-mixed into new ones.

I understand that footage is duplicated when it goes to a new library.

But are the media files being duplicated if they are copied back to their original libraries?

If so, is there a way to consolidate unnecessary duplicates within a library?

Thanks

If the footage is kept externally it won't be duplicated. Clips shouldn't duplicate if you go back to the original library. If the clips do duplicate, and the media is stored internally, the media will duplicate (but it will do this with hard links so it's difficult to gauge what happens down the road). If you're moving projects back and forth between libraries you can avoid duplicating clips in the original library by using projects in events and copying the event with the project rather than just the project itself.
