After closing and saving, Word automatically reopens.

For a while now, Word for Mac has been acting strange. When I close word for mac, it asks if I want to save changes. I’ll save as a new file and hit save. Then document immediately reopens and ask if I want to save! If I hit save with the same name, it asks if I want to overwrite. If I hit yes, it finally closes and saves. Why the automatic immediate reopen after closing and saving a new doc?

15.33 is a pretty old version of Office 2016 and does not include Microsoft's updates for High Sierra. With any Office app open, choose Help > Check For Updates. You will be prompted to update your apps to version 16.9.

Actually, it will want to update the updater, first. Install that and it will relaunch itself to check again. I looked just now and there are 16.9.1 updates for Word and PowerPoint.
