iOS 11 Apple Configurator black screen after prepare

Hi,

After we upgrade our iPads (iPad5,3) from iOS 10.3 to iOS 11 we got problem with black screen after we reset the iPads. The problem only exist if the cover is over the screen. If we remove the cover from screen everything works...?

We use Apple Configurator 2.6.1 and OSX 10.3.3.

We have a blueprint configurated with "preparemode".

The iPads resets and be activated so we kan se the iPads in Apple Configurator.

At the last startup before it starts downloading apps, etc. Its stucks.

I think the iPads is in dfu mode or something.

If we press down the powerbutton and homebutten for 10 seconds the iPads reboot ang go to normal mode.

The apps downloaded and the ipads starts working.

Anyone else who has a problem with the black screen?

The problem has been with all versions of iOS 11.

I have this problem with random iPads. I do twenty to thirty at a time, and there are always a bunch of them that 'back-screen' and remain unresponsive; forcing a reset with power and home buttons does the trick.

Easier still, if they are supervised as part of the same blueprint that includes the prep, is to select all connected devices and restart them once from Configurator.

Forcing a restart as part of the blueprint brings its own problems; half the iPads will be missing volume apps (if included in the blueprint), having placeholders instead. The only resolution is to apply the apps after running the prep blueprint that includes the restart, or to restart manually (through Configurator) once the blueprint has been applied.

I am tempted to try another solution, but my employer insists that taking a hammer to anything with an Apple logo on it would cause more problems than it would solve. *shrug*
